Today ushers in voting for the first half of Zooropa.

Please rate Babyface on a scale from 0 to 10, using whatever criteria you feel allows you to best evaluate the song as a whole. I will not set criteria for people to based on, but if you feel like your best evaluation of the merits of a song comes from voting only based on, say, the studio version, go right ahead and vote that way. Full information on the Rate The Song series may be found in this thread.

Have fun! This poll will close in 96 hours.

Hello first 0, here we are. Well, asides from the boring slow music the lyrics have always sounded a bit pedo to me. I know they're not meant that way, but once seen it cannot be unseen(or heard in this case).

I never want to listen to this song ever again.

7. There's something about it that I like. There's something childish and a bit cheesy about it that makes it strangely unnerving to listen to (which probably was the purpose). It's interesting. The double-vocals with both normal voice and falsetto together works well too.

Not their finest hour, but not terrible either. A departure for them in style and subject, at least it's original and fairly interesting.

I don't care what anyone says, this is about watching completely legal grown-up porn.

7- I kinda like the song, I think I like the naughtiness of it. *not gonna think about the pedo angle- that will ruin it for me. :(

It is catchy. Not number one hit material, but there is still something likeable about it. 7.

I clicked 8 accidentally so I need for it to be changed.

I'm listening it right now!

When I saw a vote on 0, I knew it was you!

Tied with Numb as my least favorites on Zooropa. It's not bad of a song, though - just a filler. 7 for me.

Most underrated song in their entire catalog. An easy "10" for me.

Imagine if Big Girls Are Best had made it onto Pop (or Atyclb). Well, Babyface is another BGAB that somehow made it onto an album. Utter garbage, B side track (and the fact it can be interpreted as someone watching kiddie porn doesn't help). A very generous 2.

The lyrical subject matter was recycled to much better literary effect in "Do You Feel Loved" four years later. Nevertheless, this is a pretty good song, but nothing very special by U2's standards. Has a nice, tuneful, playful feel musically, but the tune isn't strong enough to overcome that and make it something very memorable.

It's a great mix of dark sleaziness and light-heartedness. I think that in a better world that we can't even begin to comprehend, it could have been a single. 9

Well, that's the way I hear both songs. They both appear to reference the soul-less pursuit of cheap thrills and instant gratification at the expense of spiritual depth.

Yeah, I agree. They're kind of good complements for each other, actually, considering how the tone of Babyface is rather false-cheery and the tone of DYFL is so obviously dark.

Except of course, the little part about Babyface being utter shite and DYFL being sheer awesomesauce.
The difference being that 'Babyface' is written from the perspective of the weirdo guy, whereas 'Do You Feel Loved' is from an omniscient narrator's (Bono's?) point of view.

Except of course, the little part about Babyface being totally skippable utter shite and DYFL being unable to stop pressing replay sheer awesomesauce.

Stuck? Wild Honey?

wait... Peace on Earth??

Stuck ofcourse. Though don't expect me to grade WH, POE and Grace much higher. Man, so much filler shite on that album. Shame though, cause I do love WILATW a LOT.
