Question about New Year's Day

I was listening to the US Remix and I noticed a lyric change thats on the regular version of New Year's day

Stone cold nights on a cold stone floor
a crust of light on the prison door

nothing changes on new year's day

I was curious was there a reason the lyric was changed ?

I'm not sure if the lyric was changed, as much as it was just left out.

I'm just guessing, but maybe with the extra verse, it'd be too long for radio play?

This was actually the first lyric that was written for the song. On the Pre-War Tour in December 1982 of the UK, the band play this version of New Years Day.
