Pop is seriously good shit.

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Hmm... I prefered the orginal actually. I must be one of the few. It's definitely big band, but I think it takes away from the subtetly.

What songs did they not play off Pop? [/B]

I'm pretty certain that the Pop album is the only album to have all 12 songs played on stage, at least in some form. Do You Feel Loved was played but dropped early on, along with IGWSHA, Staring at The Sun was played as a full band for a short time but then got stripped down to acoustic, Wake Up Dead Man was snippeted at most shows but never played whole and a couple of lines from Playboy Mansion often found their way into the end of Streets.

Anyway fantastic album, the first U2 album I bought, after hearing Last Night On Earth I thought, I've got to get that album, and my u2 obsession started there. I still love Mofo, SATS, LNOE, Please, PM and especially Gone. Bono wrote some of his very best lyrics here, clever, raw, poetic. Oh and Miami's great for its snap shot feel of the bands experiences, plus I loved Bono screaming out the tile at the end both on the album and on stage.

I didn't like it much the first time I heard it, but then I listened to it again several months later, and I was like "Damn, I need a cigarette now." I don't rank it and the original against one another because they're both awesome in their own ways, and each has something that the other doesn't.

that and boy

Pop for me is the second best album of U2, after The Unforgettable Fire, I just can't skip one song... I love it so much!!! (and Popmart, my favorite tour)

10/10 for the whole album

Dad

I really don't understand the dislike for Playboy Mansion, it's such a pretty song. It's very simple and I  the way it builds at the end...

The only drawback I find are some of the lyrics are dated but allot of them are on the money and I personally think apply to society today as much as they did 10 years ago:

I never bought a lotto ticket
I never parked in anyone's space.
The banks they're like cathedrals
I guess casinos took their place.

Love, come on down
Don't wake her she'll come around.

Chance is a kind of religion
Where you're damned for plain hard luck.
I never did see that movie
I never did read that book.
Love, come on down
Let my numbers come around.

Don't know if I can hold on
Don't know if I'm that strong.
Don't know if I can wait that long
Till the colours come flashing
And the lights go on.

Then will there be no time for sorrow
Then will there be no time for shame
Though I can't say why
I know I've got to believe.

We'll go driving in that pool
It's who you know that gets you through
The gates of the playboy mansion.

Then will there be no time for sorrow
Then will there be no time for shame
Then will there be now time for shame
Then will there be now time for pain

this is about the smartest thing you've ever written

Playboy mantion is one of the best on POP

then will there be no time for sorrow

What do you feel is the connection between these Pop songs?

they're all fucking badass

and yeah I prefer album VD to Jools Holland. Lounge Bono is great but the subtlety on the album is sexier.

Pop is like the red-headed stepchild of the U2 catalogue.

Sure it might be good in spots, but it's usually kept in the basement away from general civilization.

Basically, it's Sloth from The Goonies.

No never full, they did it a couple of times during the POP tour but not the whole song, and during the elevation tour they also did it but again not the full song.

But still good enough.

No, unfortunately you're completely right.
Could never fathom why they didn't end popmart every night with a full band version of WUDM, IMO it's the best track on Pop.

While this analogy made me laugh out loud I find it highly offensive good sir, please refrain from comparing my favorite U2 album to a retarded simpleton who is addicted to chocolate bars :tsk:

Close, but I still give them Please as the biggest improvement.

Told ya. Glad you like it.

Just the difference of the cranked-up guitars (and lack of a loop) on the chorus... awesome. Turns it into Led Zepplin, almost.

yeah miami rocks hard live  too bad we'll prolly never hear it again...but if we're lucky maybe U2 will bring back Mofo, or maybe even Discotheque. I know Edge didn't like the Vertigo version (wtf imo), but it could be that he just didn't feel it fit that tour's vibe, and the next tour it will fit in the set better. I just want some Pop, damnit...I've only seen one Pop song live

I've always felt that Miami and The Playboy Mansion weren't nearly as bad as some people seem to think. But I think they found a great niche during the POPMart tour. Playboy Mansion's snippet durng Streets is something I always enjoyed and Miami is just a great tune. I always seemed to have the thought that Miami was to PopMart as Dirty Day was to Zoo TV.

Pop as it should have been:

1. Mofo (Popmart)
2. Gone (Elevation)
3. Last Night on Earth (Popmart)
4. Do You Feel Loved? (Studio)
5. Staring at the Sun (Studio)
6. Discotheque (Vertigo)
7. If You Wear That Velvet Dress (Popmart)
8. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me (Popmart)
9. Miami (Popmart)
10. Please (Popmart)
11. Wake Up Dead Man (Studio)

Now, THAT my friends, is one kick-ass album.
