Bruce, because he is the only live artist that would force U2 to take it higher. U2 would blow pretty much everyone else off the stage.

Well, ego-wise, for my choice... ME!!

Seriously though, my personal choices would be:
Leonard Cohen, David Bowie or Martin Gore.

If I could choose ANYONE...it would be Michael Hutchence.

If I have to pick somebody alive, I would have to say Mick Jagger.

But you take what you can get
'Cause it's all that you can find

Dressing like your sister, living like a tart. They don't know what you're doing, babe it must be art. You're a headache... in a suitcase... You're a star.
come september alot can change
summer's love turns to winter's pain in new york

If he were still alive...Roy Orbison singing "She's a Mystery To Me" with U2 backing him up! That would SO ROCK!!

If they can back up Johnny Cash, why not someone who could REALLY sing!

Would have loved to have been at the JT show in 87 when Mr. Springsteen came on for Stand By Me. So if you could chose anyone to come on stage with U2 who would it be, and why?

Pavarotti--I can't remember when it was, but it was the time they sang "One" with the full orchestra in the background (the B-side to the Miss Sarajevo single)

I like the time they sang Sweet Jane too with Maria McKee...

I like Johnny Cash's music. But he's more of a stylist than a singer, in my opinion. And, Johnny and Roy were neighbors and good friends.
