Ok so I procrastinated and had all the mp3s on my comp (thanks to my mp3 hero skeeK) and finally burned them to disk last weekend.

What an awesome cd. It's so mellow and mesmerising.

My favorite song on it I'd say is Your Blue Room. Lately I've been listening to the cd as I fall asleep.... very calm and comforting.

I love listening to Passengers when I'm doing my homework. It's very relaxing and not so distracting. My favourites are Your Blue Room, Miss Sarajevo and Always forever now.

Wonderful!! I love it too!

Here's some info (from:www.U2faq.com):

A U2 By Any Other Name - Passengers

Who or what is Passengers?
{MK} Passengers is a side project of U2. It is a series of "soundtracks" for movies only dreamed of (for the most part). It gave U2 a chance to experiment with different "textures" in the music. They were joined for this project by Brian Eno, Howie B, and Pavarotti (et al), so did not call the project a "U2 record."

{JP} In short, it's a musical collaboration by the members of U2 and Brian Eno. OS1 started out as being a sequel of sorts to a series of albums called "Music for Films" that Brian Eno made in the 70's. The idea was for U2 to really open up creatively, to explore more abstract music without being inhibited by expecations of the band. It is also important to note that for perhaps the first time Brian Eno was allowed to "lead" the band and have an immedaite and direct influence on the direction of the music, rather than take the "backseat" as a producer. Adam has said that the album was "an opportunity to get all [the] stuff out that there really isn't room for on our own records".

Larry has gone one record as saying he really didn't like the results and found the album over-indulgent. It is interesting to see where they were musically and also note the likely influence it had on the band's later development of Pop (which didn't even have Eno as producer).

Are those real movies and real people listed in the Passengers: OS1 liner notes?

{TVT} The booklet of Original Soundtracks 1 contains tons of hidden messages.

  • Movie Descriptions: all these are written by Ben O'Rian and C.S.J. Bofop. "Ben O'Rian" is simply an anagram for Brian Eno, while "C.S.J. Bofop" also becomes Brian Eno when you replace every letter with the one that precedes it in the alphabet: B(C) R(S) I(J) A(B) N(O) E(F) N(O) O(P).
  • Slug: Peter von Heineken is a joke on U2's manager, Paul McGuiness. "Jutta Minit" becomes "just a minute" when pronounced quickly.
  • Always Forever Now: "Venda Davis is an anagram for David Evans (Edge's real name), "Tanya McLoad" becomes Adam Clayton, while "Kiley Sue LaLonne" unscrambles as Anne-Louise Kelly, the album's production manager. Finally, "Pi Hoo Sun" is phonetic for P. Hewson - Paul Hewson being Bono's real name.
  • Ito Okashi (something beautiful): "the face of a child drawn on a melon" is a direct reference to the babyface which appears on the Achtung Baby CD, the Zooropa cover and several other releases.
  • Hypnotize (Love Me 'til Dawn): "Evans" is Edge's last name in real life. "Tony Corbin" refers to Anton Corbijn, U2's life-long photographer.
  • Theme from Let's Go Native: "Barry Boedders" is one R away from being an anagram for Des Broadberry, a regular studio crew member for U2.

What's the English translation of Pavarotti's lines in "Miss Sarajevo"?
{CG} It is said that a river
Finds its way to the sea
And as the river
You'll come back to me
Beyond the borders
And the thirsty lands
You say that as the river
As the river
Love will come back
Love
And I cannot pray anymore
And I cannot hope for love anymore
And I cannot wait for that love anymore

Hope, I could help!

Oh yeah, and may I add that Adam had a lovely goatee at that time

Larry looked like some kind of porn star. Edge looked like his sister Jill, I looked like Barbara Bush and Adam hasn't taken the dress off.

I bought Passsengers when it first came out, and I love it. It's great to relax to as well!

Passengers-love it love it love it!!!!

Slug is awesome, but Hypnotize (Love Me Til Dawn) is so...oh, I can't explain how it makes me feel. Each song definitely has its own personality and because most of them are for "fake" movies, you can just envision anything you want to. That's the best part of this album is the way it exercises your imagination.

Huh? Sicy, where ya been???

Yeah, it's a GREAT CD, probably in my top 5 list at least...it's mellow, but SOOOO different from anything they've ever done (thanks Brian!). I love Blue Room, Slug, Miss S., Corpse (yay! Edge singing!!), and Let's Go Native (ALL about drums!). But I hate the song just before that one, that Elvis song, ugh. I always skip that one, bleah.

Passengers is one amazing piece I have to say. It was actually the last U2 Cd I`v ever bought BUt now io wish I would have boutght it sooner. It is relaxing and kinda gives me peace of mind. Some one told me a while ago that it reminds alot of the Radiohead of today...what do you think?!
I think Rediohead are more techno and electronic when Passengers is very melodical.

Still one of my favorites

I love Passengers!! My favorite song on there used to be Your Blue Room, but now I can't stop listening to Miss Sarajevo...also I can listen to Always Forever now over and over...

Proud owner of Larry's Drumstick!

If you love Passengers, get Brian Eno's Another Green World. It is like a trip across the galaxy, through dark forests down hidden rivers and to something I cannot put into words.

I gave a VERY detailed post on this album a while back... let's see if I can find it. In that post, I didn't discuss who sings what songs, but perhaps I can include that.

*starts hunting for old thread...

Passengers is a great album, but there are more creative things to do during "Your Blue Room" than sleep. (Wink Wink)

Hi, can anybody tell me were I can find the mp3 to hear them. I've heard all your comments and it has made me interested in hearing some songs before actually buying the cd.

Also does anybody know where I could possibly find a good recording of the popmart Sarajevo concert? I'm literally new at downloading stuff and would really like to have this show!!!

Thanks!!!
