Perhaps this is old.

But I was just watching A Story of One from U218 Videos DVD and wondered why they even came with the idea of transexuals, drag queens, or well, basically "becoming" women in the first place for the video when they finally decided not to release it to MTV.

Yes they felt this anxiousness about AIDS charities and possible unwanted perceptions about AIDS and gender and all, but did this not cross their mind at all during the shooting and only after the video was completely finished that it did?

Any enlightenment?

No, I think not. Think about this: it was 1992, many popular pop-music artists had an image very attached to androgyny and to sexual liberation (Prince, Madonna, for instance). Plus, AIDS was very related to homossexual community (as it still is by many people) and it's not very innocent to mix all this in one thing: U2 to become transvestites and destructing all these preconceptions. Too bad they couldn't release it on MTV because the average public is so narrow-minded that in 1992 they would never get the message of this video. Maybe today some would never understand, that'll happen until mentalities aren't changed.
