Does any body know why Bono dosen't sing the lines "and so we're told this is the golden age and gold is the reason for the wars we wage" Any help is greatly appreciated
 
you mean when they play it live?
my guess would be its length. I believe that the single version of that song doesnt include that verse. in reality, Bono's probably forgotten that it even exists.
 
Maybe they like the happier ending with "I will be with you again" instead of the howling and sadder "Nothing changes on new year's day" and that it works better.
