is it just me or is this song/singer crap?

EDIT: "Like a rainbow in the dark / I've got a million dollars and a broken heart"

Oh yeah, B-Man's had his mits all over this one

Sigh.

For the 1.3 people who might be interested, here are the actual lyrics:
I am the Blues

Long black car through the empty park
Feel you like a rainbow in the dark
I got a million dollars and a broken heart
Someone out there could use

They know my name, the thieves and louts
They got no soul, just techno and house
And you're not even as old as my tattoos

I am the Blues
I am the Blues

I talk real sweet, I talk real slow
I'm the voice you've loved on the radio
A pirate with a breast of gold
That stuff makes slaves get bought and sold

Help me, help me realise
I just forgot the colour of my own eyes
All we do is hurt and break and bruise

I am the Blues
I am the Blues

I'm as blue as the Côte d'Azur
And both of us are not so pure
Do I still belong to her?
Aidez-moi, aidez-moi, I can't choose

I am the Blues

Falling through the cracks
The ticker tape and tax
Getting up the back of the music whores and hacks

I stood up to dance
I lost my balance
But my faith in France
Some things you can't lose

I am the Blues, oh I am the Blues
I am the Blues, I am the Blues
I am the Blues, oh I am the Blues
I am the Blues

For those who haven't a clue, here's Wikepedia's blurb on Johnny Hallyday. Within the context of his music and career, the lyrics are quite apt, IMO:

"An icon in the French-speaking world since the beginning of his career, some consider him the French equivalent of Elvis Presley. He has had a 45-year career in music and is one of France's biggest stars. He has completed 400 tours, had 18 platinum albums, performed in front of 15 million people, and sold 100 million records."

(He also recently left France for Switzerland as a protest against France's high tax rates. Perhaps he and Bono bonded over this, LOL!)

I think it's cool that he's doing this song, and that Bono wrote it.

And for the miniscule number of people who might be still following this, the album went straight to #1 in France. (An original Bono song is on the #1 album in France, for what it's worth  )

Thanks biff! (yes, some people still care  )
That's awesome news. I really, really liked that song - the lyrics are amazing. I'd love to hear Bono sing it sometime himself, though - ironically enough - it doesn't seem like the kind of thing he'd sing. Funny, because he wrote it, but it doesn't seem likely that he'd sing something so audacious as, "I am the blues" about himself. Who knows...It's still a great song though. :)

I think it was written explicitly for the Johnny Hallyday persona, so I'm pretty sure you will never hear Bono perform that song himself. It cleverly fits the "Johnny" character, which has been very deliberately shaped over the decades.

not his best set of lyrics, but pretty good stuff anyway
seem to suit Hallyday just about completely
