Here is what will happen:

-The South Africa shows will be more of follow up to the Australia shows, the general setlist.

-U2 will then head over to Dublin/France to finish up the new album with an announcement that a new album is coming May 3rd or 10th.

-U2 will then play South America shows debuting 3-4 new songs. This would put U2 in the unique position of starting a new leg and a new album coming out.

-One of the new songs will be the big single (BD, Vertigo type single the band wants) which will begin getting net play/airplay/youtube play/live play during March & April.

-By the time U2 hits America, May 11th in (Mexico/Denver) their new album will just be released and everyone will know the big single. Thus giving U2 the excitement and momentum for their summer leg.

This would be the ideal scenario, for us and for the band. Here's hoping this is what actually happens.

U2 finished NLOTH in December, right before xmas. NLOTH was released in March, so nearly three months or probably 12-14 weeks between studio and release.

Let's say a May 3 or May 10 release date since we all seem to agree it makes sense to release the album before the tour starts in NA. That puts us around 16 weeks.

So we've got around another 2-3 weeks before we hit the NLOTH timeline. Again, i believe we were getting news about the band going to London to record.

We've heard nothing of the sort this time, except one sentence from PM. I just can't trust what's been said as we've seen delays too many times.

I predict we'll see the album in Fall of 2014. Bono and Edge are too bogged down with Spiderblunder and after the tour Bono will get caught up in his hypocritical trying to make the world socialist bullshit. He'll meet with a bunch of war criminals while dodging his taxes. Hell it will probably take that long just to write one decent lyric. I hope something horrible happens to him, he hangs out with Nader, or at least watches some Battle Star Galactica so we can get some decent lyrics this time around. If not it's going to be just more of that optimistic trying to blow rainbows up our ass crap.

So they'll release U218 again but package it with one "new" song(probably that neutered version of Mercy) so that Paul Mc$$$ can buy a new yaught, and then wrap up this tour end of summer. We won't hear from them again for another couple of years then they'll come out with an iPhone 6 commercial to promote the new album it will have 11 more rip offs of Vertigo and then head out on a greatest hits tour with only one setlist.

*I just wanted to see how it felt to be one of the pessimistic whiners for awhile...

Brilliant post,. Some will probably take you seriously and start agreeing though. You may have permanently tarnished yourself.

And to add to my theory, U2 will be more stealth this time promoting a new album.

Grammies, BBC, Letterman (5 Nights), Good Morning America, etc was too much for U2, let alone any band.

Let the Claw do the talking

Yeah because DM isn't relevant, and only works with hip hop acts.

hahahahaha well done.

I love how people conveniently forget Broken Bells, The Rapture, Sparklehorse, Black Keys, Gorillaz, The Good The Bad And The Queen and Beck

Matter of fact, he's actually produced Far more non-hip hop than he has hip-hop. Is it because Feel Good Inc has De La Soul on it that people think DM is primarily Hip-Hop? It raises a good point. I'd like to know what dictates that perception.

I just think using past history to predict what they're going to do is best. Too many times we've assumed that they will do things differently.

I really am hoping to get a new album this year, and still the best news is what PM had to say back in November. He and Adam are the two sources that I trust the most in the band. I guess Larry would be right up there too, but he never talks prior to a release.

So what exactly do you think "wrapped up" means? :hmm:

Do they still have some work to do like mixing and could that happen, while they are in New York for Spiderman, in the next 3 weeks, and then head off to South Africa to rehearse in the last week before the Johannesburg show?

March is too late if they want to release it in May. They'll need 3 months, I think.

And you love it! Don't deny - we all know. We've talked about it for weeks, maybe months now. Yes, dirty, dirty BVS. That's what we say at cocktail parties, which are also dirty. In fact, one has to not only be dirty, but wear dirty clothes, have dirty hair, read dirty magazines, eat dirty cake and drink dirty martinis just to get in. But I digress. Now, where was I? Oh yeah... I'd like a large sausage and mushroom pizza with... wha? Wrong number? Never mind.

Sheesh! Pipe down already. Haven't seen you post this much in, uh, ever.

speaking of feeling dirty, i want to offer some advice. if you are ever in the bathroom doing your business, and your foot falls asleep, make sure there isn't some random guy in the stall next to you when you start tapping your foot wildly on the floor. Don't ask me why i know this...

:uhoh:

Was Lillywhite actually confirmed to have worked with the Spider-man orchestra last week like someone posted in the Spider-man thread, or was that just random rumorness simply because he was at the show?

This is an official confirmation now (as also reported on the @U2 website): U2 Album Producer To Work On 'Spider-Man' Music - NYTimes.com

So Lillywhite is probably off the new band album page for the moment. And depending on how much time the music for the Spiderman project takes, a new album might also take a while...

yeah, it's really a shame. 15 years ago, if you would have told me that Spiderman would delay the production of a new album, i would have laughed at you.

Yet rick rubin, who is one of the most influential people in the history of hip hop, is considered to be more of a rock producer with a stripped down sound.

Hmmm... dangermouse, rick rubin... I wonder what could possibly be the difference between these two that could lead people to jump to these conclusions :hmm:

On the bright side, the fact that they've gotten this involved with Spider-Man seems like it'd raise the chances of a U2 version of the soundtrack.

No way, Bono & Edge maybe, but the most I see U2 getting involved in it would be the possible inclusion of their recording of BFFTS,or doing it as a one off single.

Are we sure the new album is in danger of being delayed by spiderman (there's a sentence i never thought i'd say)? I mean, last we heard the album was beng 'wrapped up', 'polished off' and being made ready to be sent to the record label.
Hopefully, Bono and Edge are spending time with the musical because they've finished the album :hmm:

let's hope so...

Nope.

Even if the album gets delayed (based on a possible May release), who's to say Spiderman was the cause of the delay? Knowing their history, it could be any number of things.

I predict there will be no new album until November. Every time a new album comes around there are always dates rumored, but the actual release always seems so much later than anyone even thought.

November.

November.

The difference is, with other releases there hasn't been a time pressure. The last albums came when u2 as a band wasn't doing anything - they'd release the album, then plan a tour around it.

Whereas this time, given the (relatively) poor reception of the NLOTH songs live, as well as returning to tour in the US 2 years after that album was released, i believe they want something new to spice up the tour, and avoid a 'greatest hits' thing.

If they release something in november, they'll have wasted the opportunity to tour with it. It will be a tour-less album, and i just don't see u2 releasing something immediately after a massive tour.

May is the opportune time to release it, because they'll be about to play many dates in a region they already visited in a previous year, and will need a reason for the setlist to be different.

And Zooropa man , it's not like we've heard nothing - we've heard the producer they're using, we've heard that by october they had 12 songs with him, we've had the freakin' manager say the album was being polished off ready for a may release.

The lack of buzz could very well just be a reaction to the over-blown promotion to NLOTH, which didn't really help the album. Even if not, there's plenty of time for the album to be promoted, if we have 4 months to go.

I'd say don't worry about it... at least not for another few weeks :D

Yeah, pretty much this.

And what in U2's history would suggest them working with Danger Mouse ?

The producer said he's "wrapping up". And that was before Bono and Edge had to go to NY to work on Spiderman with Lillywhite on the Spiderman soundtrack. Notice Larry and Adam NOT being nowhere near NY...I guess that might be because they're done with the album. The only choices are to release it now (ie, pre US dates), or wait until 20--. We have nothing to point at the latter happening.

It could be they wanted someone familiar for the soundtrack, to, er, "wrap it up" more quickly. I'm not convinced we will hear any U2 in it - it will be a standard musical cast soundtrack.
