it's all about 409, guys.

True...I hope more songs will go this musical direction.

I also think I Believe (402) and All My Life (404) sound a little bit the same. First I thought All My Life was a great song, but I already have a feeling the chorus can become dull after a while (not yet though). Hopefully they merge these good songs in one terrific song.

Still don't like Thank You much after some more listening...

Upon second listening I'd rank the song like this:

"All my life" (single material. great chorus and interesting solo, the verse sounds Beatle-like)
402 (hopefully a chorus to work with the great guitar)
400 (channeling Lennon and McCartney, just like OOTS)
409 (only due to such a short recording), interesting! The Strokes influence, anyone? Lovely Edge backing vocals.
Thank you might be the official "ballad". I can hear strings now.

I liked all of what I heard so far, some of has links to the pop of ATYCLB like 400 and verse of All my life. Seriously catchy, too.
A bit more ethereal with 402 and 409 though.

Agreed - lots of Strokes influence in 409. God, what a great rough draft for a song.

on the same subject, any good audio people out there who could potentially enhance the music and try to eliminate the waves and other noises?

I didn't get around to trying to remove the wave noises yet.
But I did apply some hard limiting/compression to the music portion to make it punchier last night in Adobe Audition.

the music sounds rather well formed, Edge writes constantly so that's no big surprise. Lyrically Bono is just rambling, so that's the best evdience these songs aren't near completion at this point.

However, all that takes is for him to finish the lyrics and record them. So they could have sme finished songs within weeks.

So far, 402 is the best by far, I repeat by far.
409, I almost wanted to start singing "Is it any wonder....."
Sounds pretty cool and interesting but I'm hoping that one takes a left turn somewhere. 'All My Life' has a hook, but I don't think that ne is going anywhere-yet. The others are almost insignifigant, esepcially "thank you' which is both musically boring and lyrically mind numbingly cheese. Granted, these are just demos and Bono is using repetitive phrases to find something that works, but we know he wrote some of that particular song. .

all the cool people are in D.C and I'm stuck here in Richmond.

Excuuuuuuuuuuse me I'm stuck in richmond too!

Until August 19 that is.......

Anyway back on topic...beach clips! :hyper::hyper::hyper:

Can't wait to hear how they end up on the album. Does anyone remember the amount of time between the beach clips and the album release so we can get a rough estimate of how much longer we have to wait? ETA: I'm referring to HTDAAB just incase anyone gets confused...

Ahh...I was hoping someone else was going to share my pain that day. I am currently in Charlottesville...not too far from Richmond.

i'm generally thrilled with this stuff, but i agree about the "thank you" lyrics. pukey.

the music is gorgeous, though.

I really like what I'm hearing. I don't particularly care for the lyrics right now as I'm not one of those lyrics people. Not only that, but it sounds like the Salome tapes where Bono would sing filler in Bonolese while the song is still being made.

Nevertheless, good stuff. Long live 409! I remember someone talking about how this could be a concept album about how we are all robots and thought of the perfect album title:

All the Kneeling Robots that Couldn't Dismantle Their Atomic Souls

I tried some hiss reduction on 404 (and some other cleanup).
Hopefully it's an improvement:

404 has some KILLER guitar in it!!!! I love it, we want more EDGE!!!!

All in all, it's great to hear some new U2 and hopefully a single or album comes out soon!!!!

404 is my favorite by far!!!

about 409, I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but the Joy Division similarities have.

Weren't there rumors of U2 doing the soundtrack for the Ian Curtis biopic?

Sounds good, thanks for the tip about itunes!!! Overall, that 409 song sounds really interesting and the others do sound like a jam session.... boy, i can't wait for the 'finished' product if this is just the unpolished stuff.... unfreakingbelievable!!!!

is it me, or does bono's voice seem to get more "whiny" as time goes on?

How is Bono's voice "whiny"?

When I think of whiny, I think of emo singers, not Bono.

I hate beating dead horses, but I think of emo singers, Chris Martin and even at times Thom Yorke.

But I still love Radiohead, weird

i cant really explain it, but it seems like his voice is getting softer since POP, like hes almost singing at a 1/2 falsetto the whole time. he def doesnt sing deep anymore like he did on AB.

Thom Yorke makes me think of a strangled cat dragging its nails on a chalkboard.
