Not necessarily your favorite, or the most listenable.. but the most innovative, fresh, new ect. album that they released.

I would have to say Joshua Tree, just because of songs like ISHFWILF and Streets and so on.

It was the UF. Everything up to that point was arena-like rock and roll (in a good way mind you!). It becomes apparent that the Eno/Lanois combination would have an incredible affect on what could be done with the U2 sound that was established with the first three studio albums.

Songs like EP&A, July 4th and MLK were a complete mind fu*k in 1984.

I would say Joshua Tree because it didn't sound like anything else on the radio at the time.

The Unforgettable Fire was a total revolution of the U2 sound, but did it break the most ground? For the band, I'd say yes. It really changed the direction of their career and music and was a pivotal point. But in general terms of breaking the most ground musically? I'd have to give it to Zooropa.
