Rock veterans U2 are being tapped as the frontrunners to record the theme song for the new James Bond flick Casino Royale.

Producer Barbara Broccoli said that U2 are teh favourites to record the theme, although Tina Turner is also believed to be in the running.

Turner previously performed the theme to Goldeneye, which was actually written by U2's Bono and The Edge.

"David Arnold will be composing the soundtrack but we have not yet chosen who is doing the song," Broccoli said. "I think U2 are great. Bono actually wrote the song for Goldeneye but Tina Turner performed it."

I hope it is half as good a song as Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me.

Kiss by a Grail by Seal won that year.

Maybe Bono can play OddJob2 in the Flick.

That would be awesome, but do you think it'll actually happen now that they're on hiatus or whatever?

Let's hope this is true, I love all the songs they've done for movies. "Hands that Built America", "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me"?

The movie isn't released until Nov. 17th, I dunno if I can wait that long for new U2

If they do a movie-video like they did for Tomb Raider, but this time with Bond stuff, I bet it'd be pretty funny...:)

maybe they could add it to the Vertigo Tour.. with the movie date and all...

Encore 2:

Bond Theme
Yahweh
Electrical Storm

I love Goldeneye, the u2 version. I still think they could better did it themselves instead of giving the song to Tina Turner.

And I like James Bond movies so u2 and james bond =

Hmmm, technically they already wrote a Bond song with Goldeneye.

Wouldn't mind U2 playing a Bond song though!

Sure they could, everybody can just come to where Edge is (not sure if their studio in Dublin is still up anyway...), sure he's fine about making some music but doesn't want to be away from his family, or else when they do their annual relocation to the south of France (if the family member is better by then to travel).

that video was awesome!
What is getting me the most excited , besides the fact we'd get some more great music from the band, is that if it all did happen, and they were grammy nominees, we'd get to see them perform at the grammy's!!! :applaud:

what about elevation??

Elevation wasn't written for Tomb Raider, though. The two just happened to be paired together. The connection with a movie isn't nearly as strong as HMTMKMKM or Hands with their respective movies.

I forgot about the U2 version of "Goldeneye"! LOL! Thanks for reminding me.

I love the dance remix of Tina Turner's version - it is the best (as it's not "dance", per se, just remixed really well). But Bono's MacPhisto's voice doing this song is just fantastic (funny, yet intriguing).

I just hope MacPhisto doesn't come out again for this second Bond song. I'm not sure the new Bond will survive. ;)
