MERGED--> U2 for Bond Theme? + U2: Casino Royale

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
OH HOW I HOPE THIS IS TRUE!! U2 and movies make a GREAT combination! Plus, songs from Bond films are not usually the traditional mainstream-style song craft, so maybe this will encourage the band to branch out a little more from the ATYCLB/HTDAAB-era stuff and make something FUNKY!

I'm up for it

I wonder why the Bond folks would go with U2. It makes sense for publicity, but wouldn't getting a huge rock act to do your theme song go contrary to the 'back to basics' approach taken with this new Bond flick?

Hummm U2 making a Bond song! Great! I just can't wait until then...
If Goldeneye was great (I think Tina made a great job, even better then Macphisto IMO), and if every song that U2 made or paired with for soundtracks were great, this one might be as well.
And, 007 soundtrack promotional videos for the songs are always great. I remember now the Tina Turner song, Sheryl Crow, A-HA, Madonna...

so U2 wrote goldeneye AND recorded it, or just wrote it?
And also, does anyone have the lyrics? Are there even lyrics?
I can't believe I didnt know this....although I don't really follow the Bond movies at all.
As far as best Bond theme though, it'd be tough to top McCartney there.

Tina Turner ---GoldenEye
Lyrics and Music by U2's Bono and The Edge

See reflections on the water,
More than darkness in the depths,
See him surface in every shadow,
On the wind I feel his breath,

GoldenEye, I've found his weakness,
GoldenEye, will do what I please,
GoldenEye, no time for sweetness,
But a bitter kiss will bring him to his knees,

You'll never know how I watched you from the shadows as a child,
You'll never know how it feels to be the one who's left behind,
You'll never know the days, the nights, the tears, the tears that I've cried,
But now my time has come,
And time, time is not on your side.

See him move through smoke and mirrors,
Feel his presence in the crowd,
Other girls, they gather around him,
If I had him I wouldn't let him out.

GoldenEye, not lace or leather,
Golden chain, take him to the spot,
GoldenEye, I'll show him forever,
It'll take forever to see what I got,

You'll never know how I watched you from the shadows as a child,
You'll never how it feels to get so close and be denied,
Its a gold and honey trap,
I've got for you tonight,
Revenge, it's a kiss,
This time I won't miss,
Now I've got you in my sight,

With a GoldenEye,
Golden, GoldenEye,
With a GoldenEye,
GoldenEye.

Yah, they wrote AND recorded it... but the film version only featured Tina Turner on vocals. It's a nifty song, IMO... Bono kinda played with his Macphisto persona in the song, so it's all good ;) I don't have the song on me at the moment, but I'm sure someone else here would be MORE than willing to share it with you if you'd like :D

Nice. I loved GoldenEye, maybe this could be another great song.

"Goldeneye" was a top 10 hit in the U.K. - there's even a remix of it (which I like more than the original). The U2 (or MacPhisto) version of the song is fun - but really, this song was meant for a woman to sing and Turner does an outstanding job. Given how well Bono, The Edge and Tina did on "Goldeneye", I think it's very likely that the three of them will team up again. In fact, here's a link stating Turner will most likely be the one performing:

OMG, thanks for the link waynetravis...that was so fun to listen to!
I don't really follow the Bond thing...I can see the appeal, but it just doesn't float my boat.
I love Tina, but man it was hysterical to hear Bono sing it in macphisto form:lol:
and very very fun....
I hope they go campy like that again...
please excuse my utter ignorance...who is gonna be the bondgirl this time out?
I never found Bond very sexy (Sean Connery I don't think got hot til like Time Bandits..and the others just never did it for me) and given that Ewan McGregor didn't get the job I stopped paying attention completely, but if Bono and Edge are gonna do the theme maybe I'll go see it come fall...
cheers!

was it the A/C Mix?

if that's the one you're referring to, I agree.

you know, larry and adam rewrote the theme for mission impossible for the movies, they put it into 4:4 time as opposed to 5:4 time "so you can dance to it"???
