Now, my dumb question: so if I'm not a current member of U2.com, and I decide to subscribe now, do I get that pretty, shiny gift?

Yes.

Audio CD tracklist:

1. City Of Blinding Lights live FROM Chicago, May 2005
2. Vertigo live FROM Chicago, May 2005
3. Elevation live FROM Chicago, May 2005
4. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For live FROM Milan, July 2005
5. Miracle Drug live FROM Chicago, May 2005
6. Miss Sarajevo live FROM Milan, July 2005
7. The Fly live FROM Chicago, MAY 2005
8. With Or Without You live FROM Milan, July 2005

The only reason I didn't cave before y'all is because I just received my email a little while ago!

I also am one of the (apparently) few who got the membership paperweight (oops, I mean keychain!) last year. Hopefully, everyone will get the CD set with no problems.

So, I suppose these tracks are from the same shows as the DVD? I just bought the Chicago disk. I'll probably buy the Milan disk whenever it comes out. For me, I don't see a reason to renew. I don't need to spend $ on screensavers or to support a website I don't go to very often.

anyone else get their renewal notice about free discs?

came tonight:

// U2.com Renewal Package - 20% off the annual subscription fee plus an
EXCLUSIVE Audio and CD Rom 'U2.Communication'

Dear XXXXXX,

It is now 12 months since we launched the current version of U2.com.

12 months that have seen U2 release "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" and set out on the Vertigo//2005 tour; 12 months in which subscribers have been kept up to date with all things U2 including exclusive information and unique access.

As your current U2.com subscription will soon expire we would like to introduce our inaugural Re-subscription Package.

All current subscribers will be able to renew their U2.com subscriptions for a further 12 months at a 20% discount on the standard cost of $40. In addition, all U2.com members who renew their subscriptions will also receive an exclusive CD/CD-ROM double disc set, "U2 Communication".

This package, which will not be available at retail, contains an 8-track CD featuring songs recorded live during the Vertigo Tour; and a CD-ROM containing an interactive audio player, an exclusive live video clip from U2's Vertigo 2005 show at Milan's San Siro stadium, as well as wallpapers and U2 screen savers using the show's amazing imagery.

As a paid up member of U2.com you will continue to receive a 25% discount on your first purchase at the U2.com store and access to the subscribers site, which features up to the minute stories, interviews and videos. We will continue to give U2.com subscribers exclusive access to full-length audio and video streams of new U2 songs and performances. Subscribers can keep in touch with other fans via their own U2.com email address and access to the Zootopia boards and regular subscriber emails.

There will not be any ticket guarantees as part of the re-subscription package.

As we have stated before, the U2.com ticket pre sale for Vertigo 2005 was not what we wanted it to be, and once again we can only apologise for the inconvenience and distress that we know this caused. We continue to look for fair ways in which we can distribute tickets to our fans on future tours but any solution will not be tied to this re-subscription.

From Propaganda to U2.com the journey of equality moves on.

yep i did. at first i wasn't going to renew but the discs plus the 20% discount off renewal is making me reconsider. my PMs still don't work there so the discount would almost make it worth it to give it one more go at it.

I got it too...I'll probably renew only because I'm a complete and total moron. That, and the fear of possibly missing out on something can be overwhelming for me.

Again....all signs point to me being a total moron.

songs from the shows we will already get on dvd...

and MISS SARAJEVO FROM MILAN has already been released!

wtf...

amen to axver. What a shitty tracklisting. the least they could do would be to include ELECTRIC CO, the best song on the Chicago DVD...

sheesh...

and 8 songs is pretty weak for 40 bucks if you ask me

my 8:

1. discotheque from chicago
2. whos gonna ride your wild horses from boston
3. fast cars from someplace
4-8 B SIDES from the HTDAAB sessions

my CDROM:

hmm...i can't think of anything cool to put on a cd rom.

:madspit:

Come on guys you didn't expect a $30 worth of material in the Audio or CD-Rom (although they could have filled the 70 min in the audio cd), I'll renew my membership, I really hope they could provide a presale for the 4th leg, but I guess that's not gonna happen:|

From Propaganda to U2.com the journey of equality moves on.

I think they need to fire whatever surly writer wrote all that; but, semantics aside, I think we all had to figure that the preferential treatment that former Propaganda members received during this tour wasn't going to last forever.

Melon

I for one will probably not renew.

I've been a very long time supporter through a membership with Propaganda since '92 and through U2.com this past year. I'll freely admit my chief reason for the subscription was to get decent seats at a fair price. I don't understand why U2 seem to not hold any value towards their longtime fans who've been loyal to the band for years if not decades (in my case about 25 years) buying their albums and seeing their shows.

That sig about "From Propaganda to U2.com the journey of equality moves on" is about as cynical a slap in the face as I could expect from someone like The Rolling Stones.

The offer of a crummy 8 track cd containing mostly songs straight from the dvd is about what I'd expect these days from U2.

It gets harder and harder to stick with this band these days.

T.B.

I'd like to elaborate on why this tracklist is shitty.

Audio CD tracklist:

1. City Of Blinding Lights live FROM Chicago, May 2005

OK, that's alright. It's a defining song of the new tour and an appropriate disc opener. A different performance would be nice, though. I could just rip the Chicago audio off the DVD.

2. Vertigo live FROM Chicago, May 2005

I guess this is OK for the same reasons as COBL, but again, why not a unique performance?

3. Elevation live FROM Chicago, May 2005

Here's where it gets ridiculous. This is the fan club. We're the people who can actually sing The Electric Co. word for word. We really do not need Elevation. Why don't they give us some rarities that we will actually appreciate?

4. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For live FROM Milan, July 2005

You've got to be kidding. See Elevation's reasoning.

5. Miracle Drug live FROM Chicago, May 2005

See COBL and Vertigo.

6. Miss Sarajevo live FROM Milan, July 2005

It's already been released on the ABOY single! Why use it again? Why not a performance from the third leg? The third leg's operatic parts seem to be stronger anyway!

7. The Fly live FROM Chicago, MAY 2005

Good choice. But again, why something I can rip off the DVD rather than a unique performance?

8. With Or Without You live FROM Milan, July 2005 [/B]

Oh, come on now. This is absurd. How many releases do we want WOWY on? It's on RAH, ZooTV, Popmart, Boston, and Slane. We don't need another WOWY! And whyyy have they decided to put Fly and WOWY together? They don't flow together live and that's not about to change on CD.

And only eight tracks?

COME. ON.

I agree for the most part with Axver regarding the fanclub cd. The whole thing just reeks of laziness and an unwillingness to be a tiny bit daring with these sort of things.

What's the old saying again? "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

And that "journey to equality" b.s. was simply the last straw. See, U2, this is why people accuse you of being hypocrites.

Guess who isn't re-upping her subscription?

U2 needs to fire everyone involved in their sorry excuse for a Web site/fan club and start over from scratch.

Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again!

Luckily I'm not a member, and I already have all those songs on DVD's except Miss S. which I hate anyway.

Holy shit peoples, you can get screensavers! That's the cherry on top.

Hell no. I paid the ex-Propaganda U2.com fee so I could pre-order my two shows. I've barely checked out U2.com at all. 8-tracks? Wow, that is one better than U2-7 disc at target. :tsk:

My feeling is to unite in not signing up--in the long run, I think it will help the cause. I have been a Propaganda member since '90, and I too was screwed in the 1st leg fan presale (I did get the keychain), but Larry made it up to us in the 3rd leg and I got floor seats for both LA shows, and got into the ellipse both nights--I honestly think my floor tickets were weighted in favor of me winning the ellipse lottery, but who knows. So, in the end, it was very worth it.

But now, they explicitly say in the Email that this sub does not have anything to do with future presales (nor do they sya this sub will bear fruit throughout the year (the way Propaganda used to), so in essence, it is $32 for fancy packaging of something we can already get assuming we bought the DVD's (very easy to rip audio tracks from a DVD)...oh, and screensavers.

8 tracks???????????? I mean, at the very least offer the whole concert. Back in the day, Propaganda offered 4 issues of a really cool mag plus periodically you would get rare remixes, and in '97, we got most of the Mexico Popmart concert. I think if they do not get a lot of subs on this offer it may force them to offer something actually worth the price of the sub. For now, I think I may hold off, although I am tempted, only because I have a feeling that by extending the sub it will entitle you to first bite of the apple for future tours, even thought they are saying it does not.

By the way, here's an idea--WILL CALL!!!!!!!!!! That is the best way to do fan presales--hold all tix at will call until the day of the show. Upon recieving tix with proper ID, you must enter the venue. Simple. This all but eliminates scalpers from fan tickets.

Anyway I'm still on the fence, but leaning towards not re-upping.

I'm not renewing

And yes, they do need to find better writers. That lame interview with Michael Imperioli from the Sopranos has been up there for days with him called by his character name instead of his real name, but as his real name! They can't even get names right!

Or you know, maybe, they should hire people who work on U2 fansites to head up the whole shebang. Maybe then it might actually be satisfying.

That line about "journey of equality" is TACKY with a giant fucking T.

Absolutely, but coming home and finding that line in that e-mail gave me my first laugh in what has otherwise been a bad day

It almost made me forget how I annoyed I am that we never recieved anything like this as part of our membership exclusives in the first year.

Almost.

My real concern over this is that there is not gonna be a dvd release for Milan now...

All we will have is some crap quality video like we get on enhanced audio cd's, where we have to install some ropey bit of software to view the files.

Axver your post is spot on. Such a a lame tracklisting. 8 rare songs from U2's own soundboard sources would have been amazing. This is what a fan wants.

I'm not renewing, i've already ripped the audio from the DVD.

The "journey of equality" line is offensive to its original intention and has killed Bono's meaning absolutely. To be honest it makes me cringe that it's said every night anyway, now it's just laughable.

This whole offer is almost as bad as releasing the Mexico gig on the complete U2.

U2.com is lazy to the point of being offensive.
