Bono wasn't lip synching but the rest of the band were miming their performance and weren't playing live. It was Bono on karaoke.

yes, is true. only vocals and drums are live, the rest is recorded. i don't know why they do this, especially if the song is great when is "all live" as it was played in snl.

The shows CDUK and Top of the Pops have a policy about this, they never have the instruments fully live for some reason.
