Checking Borders and Target tomorrow probably won't do much good. I work for target and have seen the box set in the electronics stock room today. The stores can't legally sell it before the release date on tuesday. Laws prevent them from doing so otherwise they can get a heavy fine and lose thier licence to sell music and DVD's. Online retailers can send them before the release date as long the receiver doesn't get the product before the release date.

Thanks. I ordered the set online, but I thought I'd also buy a copy for a friend too! And a regular copy for my hubby's car. We're not updated with CD burn capability yet, more money for the boys!!!

To Target for the opening bell on Tues. morn!!!

Collector's Edition Box Set - Spoilers

I was lucky enough to get mine today.

The DVD has one of the funniest moments I've ever seen. A version of 'Vertigo' with Edge playing the banjo and Bono singing. No other insturments or backing vocals. I was laughing so hard that I had tears.

The book is awesome. I haven't had a chance to sit down and comb through it, but it looks like it's mostly done by Bono and Edge. There's 2 pages of pictures of the band, each one of them has their handprints in it and there's all sorts of drawings and written stuff. It's pretty sweet.

I'll try to take pics soon.

:hyper:

so why would they put the lyrics to "Mercy" in the hardcover book but not include the song?

Perhaps Mercy is an easter egg on the DVD?

Life is semi-sweet today. I was able to get the cd/dvd version (2), but I'll have to wait till next week for the collector's edition because none had arrived yet. :(

Thats okay. I get to sleep with the cd blasting into my ears tonight in the guest room. Sorry honey, but tonight its just the earphones, me, and this hot cd.

Does it have all the lyrics for Mercy? Can someone post this? It would settle some guesses as to what the lyrics are in another thread.

Thanks.

so, which item is the END all BE all Collector's Item and will it be available at Best Buy and such places?
The CD. DVD and 48 page book.
that's THE collector's edition, correct?

Just bought the special box edition of HTDAAB

I got it this morning before going into work, HMV on Grafton street in Dublin was open at 7am this morning.
I couldn't wait to finish work so I could listen to it.
Put it on my ipod and listened to it on the way home, I've heard the full album four times now, and my verdit?
I think it's the strongest album they've made since Achtung Baby,
great lyrics, and Edge is on blistering form.
Bono is too, and Adam has some great bass lines, Larry is rather quiet though.
It doesn't sound as produced as ATYCLB, you can hear the instruments more clearly, it's more raw, the way a rock record should be.
I can't wait to hear this live, roll on the tour!
Any other fans here that have bought it?

how much was it ?

Well the store is going to have it on sale for 29.99 but my friend hooked me up with his employee discount, so it worked out to about 23 bucks. I bought a bunch of other crap thats not to be released until the 23rd so he sold it to me and is putting the sale in the computer on Tuesday lol.

I preordered my box set but will not get it till the 24th or even 25th but i have heard the album cos i d/l it and it sounds amazing! I like AB better but this is because AB has been my favorite album and always will be i think nothing will top it in my eyes BUT HTDAAb comes VERY close to AB and I think that it beats the jashua tree!! Only time will tell if this gets closer to AB and even surpasses it but as of now i think its in my top 2 favorite U2 albums!

And indded its a very Jashua tree driven guitar album with lots of great 80's sound loving it all the way!

just wondering what other songs are on the dvd that we haven't seen uploaded. no rush or anything, i'm just curious.

Wooty-hoo!:hyper:
My order for the collector's edition shipped today! It was somewhere in DC as of 1pm this afternoon, perhaps it's in this state by now. Looks like I might actually get it sooner than I thought!

Roland, can you confirm that your version has the full lyrics?

Yes, full lyrics included in the cd/dvd edition. Of course, there is no Fast Cars in this edition (Canada), so there is no lyrics for it either. There are lots of photos that were taken directly from 8mm footage. These photos are not on the collector's edition (there were none in the book). So, you might want this edition for the photos and the lyrics.

I strongly dislike the deluxe book (see link for pics):

http://www.prisoner65.de/pics/

I love the album, I'll be buying the CD+DVD version, but I am so glad I got to see the book before i bought it. This thing is just trash.

Scribbles, illegible text and un-proffessional presentation. Where was the design team from all their other albums? Where are all the Corbijin photos? At least someone could have typed up bono's scribbles. And couldn't some one have told Bono that he has no skill as a painter? Even if you like abstract art, all his visual ideas are undeveloped. Don't ask me as a fan to spend an extra $20 just so some talented singer/songwriter can use his ego to scribble crap down in a day or two.

They are a band of big ideas, a lot of which i don't agree with, but all that aside they don't make their living as graphic designers. If you want fans to double and triple the price of their cd purchase HIRE PROFFESSIONALS FOR YOUR BOOK to make the package have some polish and value. THEY CERTAINLY HIRED EVERY PRODUCER UNDER THE SUN TO POLISH THEIR RECORD which they are selling for $10. Buy the DVD and it's $18. Buy the book and it's $40.

It makes no sense to spend three or four years polishing, honing, and pouring 25 years of hardwork and musical experience developing a classic album for $10 and maybe a weeks worth of badly written text and undeveloped art by part-time amatuer artists and sell it for $20.

Their promise: They get the posh lifestyle, and we don't get crap albums. Well they've held up their end of the bargin. Great album. Crap book.

I didn't mean to slam those who liked the book. I'm a U2 fan and look forward to new U2 product. And to see a U2 product in such an unfinished un proffessional state, left me with disappointment.

Why unfinished and unproffessional? Well, from what you've said i guess that you know it only from those scans...
I like the book, although i havent had time yet to look through it very carefully... But still, it is full of great stuffs, something knew to discover about the band, lots of funny things
Im glad to have the collectors edition, but if i knew it doesn't have a regular box with cd i would think twice...
