Seems like everyone just assumes BIG RELEASE, BIG TOUR.

The way this Vertigo tour has spread out and the absolute media saturation that U2 have managed for the last two releases, I could see a lower profile stop-gap type record and no tour.

Somewhere in their strategy book has to be a chapter called something like "When Enough is Enough" or "Playing It Cool for a Spell."

Just because it doesn't fit their pattern doesn't mean it can't happen. Not saying this is what I want, but it's a possibility.

Agree or disagree?

I don't know about no tour, but they have been quite hush-hush on this album so far.

All we got was "we're going in the studio next month", then some beach clips and next thing we know, they're in the studio with Rubin.

u2 and low profile dont really go together

but it would be nice

I think touring is really the heart of the band, moreso than album work. I don't really see a tourless album on the horizon, though I would be all for a little less market saturation than what we have now (and what we're going to have this fall/winter!).

It does seem odd. It just seems like an appropriate time to change up the routine with a different kind of campaign. If the Green Day thing panned out, they could be doing a covers album with special guests, which could be interesting - or terrible. Doesn't really explain the beach songs, though.

It just seems like at some point they would put out an "Automatic for the People" - a record without a tour.

The closest they got was Elevation. I doubt it.

U2 basically fell of the map from the end of the Elevation tour (2002) until Atomic Bomb in November 2004.

I think they know how to play it chill.

U2 is still opened to new ways of making and showing music.
A new album can come sooner than we think and a tour only coming a year or so after... It has already happened in 1988/9...

In 2007 they'll just have finished touring, but there'll be more than 2 years they don't show up with any new material...

Dollars to donuts says that if the guys release something in '07 they will not tour.

Unless there is some huge technological gimmick backing them. And I mean huge.

See, I don't think the average joe ever noticed they went away. Between greatest hits, soundtracks, and Bono's humanitarian work, U2 does not leave the zeigeist for long. I think another record and tour announcement in '07 is pushing luck.

i could see them putting out an album in november/december/january and waiting till may/june to tour, but i could never see u2 putting out an album and not touring for it for all.

1. The last greatest hits record was released in 2002.

2. When was the last time they did any song for a soundtrack? Casino Royale?

3. Bono put his humanitarian work on hold so they could record the new album.

Release the album March '07, tour US in May-June, Europe in July-August.

Problem solved.

This seems rather realistic, and A-OK by me!

it's kind of like oil and water...they just don't go together and are not U2...

album and no tour... no way... not for U2 anyways.. THEY ARE NOT A STUDIO BAND... AND NEVER WERE.

as has been said since day one by them that they live to play LIVE....! The moment they feel like not playing live will be the day they split. Plain and simple..
