in past shows.. has the band spent a lot of time with behind the stage seated fans?

just curious. tonight i was near the back of the stage and they hardly did. but bono acknowledged the area a lot of times.. but i also heard somewhere that they used to sometimes dedicate quite a bit of songtime to fans back there in the past.

anyone got any stories?
