In Bono We Trust???

http://launch.yahoo.com/read/news.asp?contentID=208581

Quote:
Bono added, "Oxfam has got it right. It wouldn't cost much to change the rules of trade so that poor countries can work their way out of poverty. But the world's leaders won't act unless they hear enough people telling them. And every day they fail to act, thousands of people die because they can't afford the basics of survival."

Excuse me.
Am I buggin' ya?

Those people have been living in, as Bono says, poverty forever. Is it unfair trade that they want to, and do, buy Coke, Levi's, and other American products that even the American poor can't/don't buy. Ever heard of RC Cola? Unfair trade?

Unfair trade = CAPITALISM

The last I heard, communism, socialism, and facism, weren't working to well.

In life, and economics, there is always a food chain, some are at the top, some in the middle, and some at the bottom. Fortunate or unfortunate... this is the way it works, despite human efforts to change it. Show me an example to prove this otherwise.

I'd like to see Bono's manifesto before anyone else blindly follows him.

I don't think Bono suggesting that we do away with capitalism. I just think he's positing that, at some point, concern for humanity becomes more important than safeguarding the integrity of a purely capitalist system. But what do I know?

I have one question for you...why come to a U2 forum if you're "anti-Bono?

First off... I'm a bigger U2 fan than you can imagine... and I'm not a newbie here, nor a troll. Just because I question Bono's intent and plans, doesn't give you right to be rude to me.

Unfair trade = when the U.S. is allowed to export their goods to other countries tariff-free (or very low tarriff) and then keeps up their trade barriers to countries wanting to import THEIR products to the U.S. Common sense let alone a course in Economics 101 should teach you this. Thanks and have a nice day.

You're making some pretty broad assumptions there aren't you Anti-Bono? It's not like he's leading us over cliff and telling us to jump, right?

And pardon my asking, but why are you here?

I was rude?
Sorry you feel that way.
Since you're not a troll or a newbie, do you go under another name here?
If you do, why didn't you use it to post this?

I'm just trying to make sense of your post.

Mr. Anti-BONO,
You say your not a newbie nor a troll, yet your profile shows that you became a member of the forum today, April 18, and you have a total of only 3 posts in your own thread and only thread. Your first thread should be in Free your Mind given its controversy. I'd say your a troll, but it is possible that your a newbie and perhaps do not know any better.

Have a good day.

Trade negotiations... that's part of capitalism. 101 yourself.

You asked. And thanks, but I've had the class...quite a while ago.

Economic Colonialism. Try that one out for size.

I almost flunked economics so I honestly cannot respond in an informed and intelligent manner...

And I'm not going to jump on your case for disagreeing with Bono's mission because, simply, not everyone agrees with it...

But your original post was a bit antagonistic in tone so you shouldn't be surprised by these responses. And why did you post your disagreement under a new name, especially one called Anti-Bono? You could've just been yourself and raised these questions politely. Perhaps many of us would benefit from a little economics lesson from those who know about these things, so it isn't like just raising the questions alone would bug people--it's your tone and the suggestion that people are blindly following him.
