I'm not asking for a free ride, ppl seem to not be understanding what I'm saying at all.
I'm trying to point out to ppl to get it out of their heads that $10 is not a lot of money, and like I've already stated before, I don't mean it in regards to this board, I mean it in regards to anything. It's not a good assumption to make, that money is so easily thrown around. And I also am including the fact that Elvis has had to cough up a lot of dough for this place, he didn't just pull that money out of his ass so why do ppl have it in their heads that one can just get money out of nowhere...

I think most people understand that. What I (and I think a few others) don't understand is why this is such a key issue. The whole POINT of having premium memberships is because some people will not or cannot pay. Therefore, even though some people may be wrongly assuming that everyone can afford $10, why should that matter if those who can't afford it don't have to pay to be members? What do people's assumptions matter if they have no bearing on what you have to or don't have to do?

Bottom line: we need money and a lot of us can afford to give. You can't? Fine. You don't have to. And you can STILL be a part of the community, people's wrongful assumptions about money aside.

In regards to your idea about simply moving the community to another site, I really don't see how that could work. If we move to an already existing site, we'll be intruding on another community, so no, it would not be the same as it is here. If someone starts up a new site for us, won't we end up having the very same bandwith problems that Elvis is having right now? I think the only way to save the community is to find a way for Elvis to afford the bandwith. And the premium memberships should be able to do this while still allowing those who can't afford to pay to be a part of the community.

I can't find my magic wand or my pot o' gold

I think...I don't have much to say except
THANK YOU Elvis&Co.
I can only wait and observe and hope.
I wish I had time to read all the posts in this thread. I would learn a lot about the functioning of this site. I didn't know the attachment function took up so much width. So if trimming things like that helps...do it!!. i won't use it again(but I can't resist the smilies). We could have less of them, as fun as they are.

A membership fee is a good and valid idea. I was wondering what amount you had in mind and when i read $10 ($20 Oz) I was relieved...that is a very reasonable amount...all THIS for $10!!
It would be hard to think of anything else so valuable that comes so cheap.

I know you are all doing your best and working hard on our behalf, in the past , today and for the future. Good luck .

PS: I hope it gets resolved soon, one way or the other....my old heart can't take this...it would be good to start 2003 AD knowing if Interference will still be alive .

Just to add my 2 cents...

I use LiveJournal, and they have a system where everyone can have a journal for free. However, you can also pay per month (or three, or a year) and get some special features: an email address, more spaces to store avatars, access to faster servers, searching capabilities, etc.

I used the free service for awhile, and realized how much I used it and I decided to support them by paying for it. I've done this for a couple of years now. It is worth it to me.

Another thing about LiveJournal is that you can also pay for someone *elses* subscription (they take paypal, so it's really easy). I have done that for a few of my friends as Christmas or birthday gifts. The amount of money isn't that much *to me*, but it is *to them* and it's just a little thing that I can do for my online buddies. (Hey Elvis, Christmas is only in less than two months! :)

Out of curiosity, I'd love to know how many other Interferencers pay to be a member of a message board (not a download site like for porn or mp3s or something, but strictly a discussion board).
me!
believe me, all i get from my other forum is posting and entertainment.

btw spiral_staircase, i like your avatar! it took me a second to get it

well I have to pay almost twice as much for being canadian?

after converting to america dollars

You're paying the same amount -- $10 American -- the number is just bigger. When I drink in Canada I pay C$7 for a drink that costs US$5. same drink, different currency.

i think the only way to go on this is the free/premium member thing...i know that quite a few of us here are under 18 and therefore don't get access to ma credit card. If you made it so that we'd have to pay then you would have a lot less people and therefore not need the money (if you see what i mean!). i think that paying users should get extras such as:
email,
forums that other people don't get.
etc...etc...etc

which is why I still think it's best to just fade away.

Please, feel free to do so.

I can see by your post count that you're not here much anyway. So go away and stop trying to convince those of us who really enjoy this place that we should give it up because you don't like it.

Sheesh.

I'd be willing

...to pay annually. I'd also be willing to sponsor someone who may not be able too. Has anyone brought up sponsoring someone who may not be able to afford it? Just curious.

There will be the option to sponsor someone, either by PayPal or by snail mail.

Coca-cola, football, radio, radio, radio....

Sound familiar? :) I just figured it out today- very clever, Spiral Staircase!

____

And on the topic of this thread :))), there's really nothing that I can say that hasn't already been said. I think the 3rd option is the way to go. I'm definitely willing to pay $10/year, and I think the sponsorship option is great too.

I reeeeeeally love some of the pious folk here.. tryin to explain why they should shut it down w the purest of motives ect:rolleyes:

Now if I sponsor someone Elvis that doesnt mean that I have to sleep w him right?

thank u

Look, I didn't read through all of the posts, so I'm sure this is said already, but with a "premium" service, all that happens is some people pay for the service for everyone else.

Everyone can read, but you must pay to post. Also, have an annual fee, not monthly.

OK, fine. I will be the asshole to say what I think here and then get flamed for it.
I don't think $10 is a lot of money.

There. I said it. Here, I will go a step further and say that I generally lose $10 within the first hour at a bar.

I don't care if you think I'm an idiot or I don't understand the plights of the world or whatever you want to think.

And I DEFINITELY don't think $10 is a lot of money for Interference.

U2Saves the World....I will be the second asshole to say what I think--that I whole-heartedly agree with you.

an alternative to membership fees:

EVERYONE IS INVITED OVER MY PLACE TONIGHT!!!!!!!!

no

:uhoh:

:reject:

First I never would have guessed football for the ball because it doesn't look like an American football or a soccer ball. I have no idea what coca-cola, football and radio are supposed to mean. Was it something flashed by on the ZOO TV screen I missed?

Well excuuuuuuuuuse me! :sexywink: Ok, so avatar creation is not my specialty.
All your questions can be answered here, and all your answers can be questioned here.

(btw...I couldn't get a picture of a seaside town to fit into my avatar.)
