I wanna do a survey

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
#1 - 1992

#2 - Achtung Baby, Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree (I have to mention Boy too since it was such hard choice...

How do you keep a moron busy for an hour? Two words... Extreme Paddleball

"wow...look at those two birds... they look just like airplanes, the way they're flying..."

" because they are airplanes..."

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Very Interesting.

If anyone wants to do something genuinely statistical with this, be my guest. As you can probably guess, I wanted to see what the relation was between the year you became a fan and your favourite albums. I'd say there's a bit of a trend for 80's fans to prefer the 80's stuff and 90's fans to prefer the 90's stuff, but there are so many that go in the complete opposite direction that my theory is pretty much worthless.

U2 fans are just all over the place!!

Ahh, memories...

The year: i don't know, i remember hearing So cruel on my brother's stereo and it was just magical.
I really went on a U2 overload this past year, though...

Albums: hmmmmm...the big three-JT, AB and ATYCLB. But the order varies.

------------------
"It's about finding your way into the music." - Edge

"Something inside said this could be everything in your life." - Bono

"U2 as a band does things nobody one else can. I think that is a very powerful thing." - Larry

"Adam believed in the band before anyone did." - Bono

1992 --
I heard Where The Streets Have No Name on the radio for the second time, and this second time it really hit me hard. Then I heard Pride (In The Name Of Love)] -- and yes, it deserves the full title! -- and I remember thinking that any band that has the ability to put out two songs like that must be looked into. I bought JT that same day, I believe.

My top 3:

The Joshua Tree
War
Achtung Baby

...and I REALLY wish I could have included Boy on that list, as it such an amazing album! ATYCLB just missed the cut, too, but really, this is all based on the mood I happen to be in anyway.

The Tempest

Year: 1996

Fave Albums: Achtung Baby, Joshua Tree, Zooropa/Pop (what? it's a tie...)

------------------
"I buy socks."
-Adam, when asked what he does with the money he would have spent on drink.

"The babes, the feast, and the toga conspire to give Adam the bearing of a Caesar (one of the late, inbred, lunatic Caesars, perhaps, but a Caesar nonetheless.)"
-Bill Flanagan, at an after-concert soiree with the band and Co.

"If I didn't have my spoons, I'd go insane."
-Adam, The Simpsons

I thought scatteroflight said that the top 3 choices didn't have be in any particular order?

Anyways, here are my answers :

Year : 1991
Fav Albums : AB, JT, ATYCLB

I meant ONE of their fave albums...sorry...I should have been more specific!

"I don't know you,
But you don't know the half of it..."

1985 (So I was only 3 but I remember Live Aid!)

Favorite albums:

AB
JT
ATYCLB

Even though I listed these as my current favorites, I do consider myself (like Scatteroflight) one of the rare young ones who likes 80's U2 more than 90's. I also love War and The Unforgettable Fire, really just as much as those.

GypsyHeartgirl, u2valleygirl, and U2 Lulu's responses have been excluded from these results, due to their responses being difficult to calculate (sorry!).

**

Years People Became Fans:

1979: 1
1980: 2 (1 chose "Boy" as a fave)
1981: 2 (0 chose "October")
1982: 2
1983: 5 (1 chose "War")
1984: 3 (2 chose UF)
1985: 5
1986: 2
1987: 10 (4 chose JT)
1988: 1 (0 chose RH)
1989: 1
1990: 2
1991: 6 (2 chose AB)
1992: 5
1993: 4 (0 chose "Zooropa")
1994: 1

1997: 4 (0 chose "POP")
1998: 2
1999: 2
2000: 4 (3 chose ATYCLB)
2001: 2

Interesting...

1987, the year JT came out, attracted the most fans, while only 4 say that is one of their favorite album. It appears that an album released one year may draw new fans, however, as they experience U2 more, they find they like other U2 albums better.

(Thanks to Seconds for pointing out an error!)
