Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me and Panic in Detroit?

I was learning "Panic in Detroit" by David Bowie on guitar recently and found the main riff very similar-sounding to the main riff of "Hold Me, Thrill Me..."

I'm not saying U2 copied Bowie 0MG! or that it's a bad thing, I'm probably wrong anyway. Did anyone else find the two songs similar?

There's also one moment in HMTMKMKM which is almost identical to Children of The Revolution riff by T. Rex (the end of each verse)

You can really tell when you listen to live versions of Panic In Detriot. I doubt it was intentional. HMTMKMKM sounds more like something inspired out of Desire than a Bowie inspiration.
