i am making a best of live for my uncle for christmas. i would really appreciate everyones input, suggestions, etc..

1) should it be 2 disc or 4?

2) should it be from their entire career or
just the last 2 tours?

3) should i try and make it sound like one
giant concert, or edit a fade at the end
of each song unless they run together
from the same concert?

these are the questions i have now. i am off work today so i am trying to get a good start on this.

thanx

i want to make this appear as professional as possible.

Long Time no see

Well I think A 4 Disc would be good.

You Could have the first Two Discs as Live From The 80's Stuff, and the Second Two Discs with stuff from 90's-00's

You could make it edited so it sounds like one long gig, but It wouldn't sound right, going from different quality bootlegs, unless of course you use decent Soundboards/Broadcasts and the like.

1. I think 2 discs. 4 might seem a bit too much. If he likes it, he can always ask for more.
2. Definitely the whole career.
3. Go by ear. If the songs flow cohesively without fades, leave them untouched. If it's a choppy transition, employ fades.

I think you could get plenty of songs on a 2 disk.
I would go with the whole career.

If you need any older stuff I have a couple live shows from Boy, UF, etc.

Rick,
I say two disks, if he gets more, he might not listen.

I think you have to go with their whole careers but aim for songs for a U2 novice this time out. Once he's comfy with that, go to B-sides.

A fade is a good idea, since live recordings do not always end cleanly.

I'd love to hear this myself! Good luck with it.

thanx for the advise. i have been fighting with an insurance company all day to get a rental while i get my car fixed. i was hit from behind last week. fun fun fun.

i am off to martial arts class. then its time to work on this project. thank you so much for the advise please keep it coming.

such as which specific versions of what songs i should put down. i am going for soundboard, fm, dvd rip, etc.. quality because my uncle, God love him, is very pickie about sound quality. ill be back in a couple of hours to start this .

thanx again.

i am having one hell of a time trying to figure out what song to start off with.

elevation
vertigo
streets
zoo station

omg, any ideas? or even hawkmoon?

Why not open with Streets then follow it with City Of Blinding Lights as to make it seem like City is an extension of Streets?

Some good choices here but I would prefer One Tree Hill from Dublin 26.12.89 (you're not alone Axver...;)

And I would like to see some Pop stuff on disc 2, Hold Me Thrill Me.. from Israel springs to mind together with Last Night On Earth from Mannheim.
