We've been talking about the crap titles in boystupidboy's thread. How about titles that we like?

Best Title: Vertigo , I love the way the word sounds. And that "V" makes the word look sexy.

Other contenders:

A Sort of Homecoming
Yahweh
Exit
Even better than the real thing
Ultraviolet

My list of badass U2 song titles:

Mysterious Ways
Vertigo
Yahweh
Exit
Running to Stand Still
Bullet the Blue Sky
Where the Streets Have No Name
Love and Peace or Else
The Unforgettable Fire
Even Better Than the Real Thing
One (so simple. perfect name for a perfect song.)
City of Blinding Lights
One Step Closer (unfortunatley that's also the name of a Linkin Park song  I like both but they're, uh, very different)
Discotheque (it's a cool word, especially the way it's spelled)
Last Night on Earth
Gone (I like the simple one word titles)
Xanax and Wine (I didn't even know what Xanax meant but it's awesome anyway)
Until the End of the World
Summer Rain

I'm sure there are plenty others, but that's my list for now.

With or Without You
Until the End of the World
City of Blinding Lights
Where Did it All Go Wrong?
Where the Streets Have No Name
Salome
Even Better than the Real Thing
Zooropa
Some Days are Better Than Others

SMB

Running to Stand Still
Even Better than the Real Thing
Until the End of the World

For newer ones, I also quite like "Love and Peace or Else" and how it contradicts itself. Very clever. *G* My favorite still has to be Running to Stand Still, though.

Love and Peace or Else
Zoo Station (how did they ever come up with a phrase this cool)
Things to Make and Do
Boy/Girl (whats with the slash? )
Mercy (nothing to do with the song, so it's even cooler)
Fast Cars
Shark Fin Soup ( )

Running to stand still
All i want is you

BoosterJuice, are you gay or woman???Listening to Kim Wilde and saying that V in Vertigo makes it look sexy

Bahnhof Zoo (short for Zoologischer Garten [sp?])
or (train/underground/metro) Station Zoological garden, made (in-)famous by the Christiane F. novel&film.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082176/

and very close to the boys' hangouts in Berlin.
Just go to Berlin and check it out. Should also be a picture somewhere in the AB booklet.

Zoostation...a cool title indeed, but my votes go to
Two Hearts beat as one
Love&Peace or else...
Bullet de blue sky
Do you feel Loved?
Even better than the real thing
Last night on earth. (first night in Hell)
Electric Co.
Holy Joe

The song has everthing to do with mercy, yes, it doesnt use the word "mercy" but the lyrics describe that attribute - e.g. "if your the prosecution i'll get away with murder" "love puts the blue back in my eye" You love me too much" "love is... a charity" etc.

I'm curious about how U2 decides on song titles that aren't found anywhere in the song, because they almost always make the title of the song the same as some of the lyrics (usually chorus).

Much of UF had unrelated names, whereas none of Pop has a standalone name (maybe Mofo)

I've always liked this song and it's a VERY interesting title. At school on the markerboard, I put the acronym of the song (ADIHFABOM) and said if anyone could tell me what U2 song title that is, I'd give them $40 since that was what I had at the time. Needless to say, If I gave them every word but "Milk" I don't think they would have got it.

I'm not a big fan of this song but "Beautiful Ghost" has a certain "ring" to it.

You can find out what they mean by looking carefully at the lyrics and subject, comments from the boys in interviews also help as do some videos. Introductions by our man Bono at concerts also provide insight.

The Unforgetable Fire for instance was the title to an expostion of artwork relating to the nuclear holocaust in Japan. Hence the mushroom cloud imagery in the UF video. I think the tiltle even came before the song. Bad is probably a reference to Bad trip, but there must be some thread on this somewhere, if you really want to find out, perhaps you can start one?

Not to go too far off topic, but I've heard this weird theory, occasionally hinted at in the BBC's "Never mind the buzzcocks" music-quiz, that women have a harder time remembering song titles because they tend to only remember the first line of songs. Personal experience in Pub quizzes supports this.
