Got 23 grand? Act now!!

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I can't decide what's most wrong about this:
-selling off your U2 collection
-doing it on e-bay, which just reeks of profiteering.
-or charging as much for it as for a mid-priced car.

Whoever's doing this is either one greedy bastard or else really, really desperate. Either way, it's kinda unsettling.

Whoa! WTF?!

LOL! what does the guy expect? $23,000 and no bids? Yeah right! He says he has over 140 rare U2 cd's yet one of the rarest records I know is a toss up between Beatles and Elvis, (Beatles one mainly for the cover) and the last I heard they were both equally valued at ?20,000 so this guy has no chance,I bet if you put all the U2 rarities together in one collection, they would not be worth $23,000 going by my big Music Collector book!
This guy is in dreamland!

well 142 cd's at 23000 is just under $162 a piece. i guess it's possible but highly unlikely. maybe if he posted what the cd's actually are...

This guy's an idiot. Somebody should e-mail him to see exactly what he's selling.

Maybe it's just me but it seems no CD's are worth that no matter whats on them. I'd like to know whats on them though, I'm curious to know how the guy came up with that price.

Rare is just another word for bootlegs. Why buy a bootleg when you could easily download a concert off the net?

I would rather be interested in rare U2 vinyl myself.

Why are you people so mad? It's clear that nobody will bid this much. Let him learn from his own stupidity and the laws of economics.

"this man needs to be hung by his balls and shot.....that collection isn't even worth a thousand dollars"

You need to calm down. He's not forcing you to buy anything or ripping you off. He's telling you exactly what he has and he's asking a price for it. If you don't want to buy it, you don't have to. Damn, people, what's wrong with you?

WOW! I have most of those CD's - and the ones I'm missing on that list, I didn't want. I also have many more CD's.

Therefore, if someone is willing to give me $22,000, I'll gladly sell you *my* CD collection. Why, that's something like $160/CD. Note the bargain rate!

Deep down, he/she really doesn't want to give up the collection!

Yeah, 23 grand is absolutely ridiculous. I have half this stuff on mp3 which I downloaded for free.

Some people would suggest that the quality of MP3 is poor, when compared to an original recording pressed onto CD. Having heard SHN, I would agree. Which is not to say I never listen to MP3s anymore.

Of course, there is no guarantee that this guy's collection is not mostly MP3s converted back to Wav anyway.

Well, I'm old.

I've been a fan since '83, so even back in the 80's I was able to get U2 and U2-related vinyl (like the "Do They Know Its Christmas" 45 rpm single).

Then, in the early 90's, when I was in grad. school, my U2 fanaticism kicked in (perhaps because I was in grad. school and needed an outlet). So slowly over the MANY years I was in school, I gathered U2 items. This was before the days of easily accessible .mp3 files. As such, I have many "original" bootleg CDs as well as other truly rare CDs.

That said, if I put all of these items together, would they be worth $23K? Hardly. I mean, this guy was charging $160/CD! Divide that by 10 ($16/CD) and then you get more realistic numbers. If he was selling all of that for $2K, then, while still a bit high, at least it's reasonable.

I, too emailed him for "the list". What he's got is not rare at all, and def not worth 9K. I told him good luck and that he's probably got a $200-300 auction. Now that I think about it, it could go for 4, but still....that's just a *slight* bit less than what he's asking. BUT! If you do win...he'll throw in 11 LPs for free...and shipping is included!

Yes, why get upset about all that money? When we can just pop on over to Doctorwho's house! ;> ) Just teasin'...!If I had that kind of collection-there just wouldn't be a price for it. So I don't think it's real fan...or he would have priced it a little less or not at all! just thought...peace ya all
