I agree with this. I'd argue that U2 was most experimental in the 90s. They certainly changed the most from album to album during this time.

I didn't care for the Passengers album when it came out, because I was in my early teens and hadn't developed a taste for anything beyond pretty mainstream music. Really I've only started to appreciate it in the last year or so, and to see how it fits into U2's growth in the 90s.

I'd call the 90s the Golden Age of U2. I was really unhappy with the transition between Pop and ATYCLB, and while I liked HTDAAB much more than ATYCLB, I can't say I still feel that "what will U2 come up with next?" feeling that I did back in the 90s.
