EGADS, some people are just mean. And what's worse, that girl who tried to push me down, guess where she was standing the entire time of the concert? On the freakin' rail, a little bit to the left of Adam towards the middle. She and her curly-haired-with-sparkles-in-it friend enjoyed the entire concert on the rail. I wasn't bitter about the two of them being on the rail... hey, they got there first. What pissed me off was the inconsiderate behavior of that chick after the concert was over. She was on the rail... what more did she want? I would have liked to have had a drumstick from Larry, but you didn't see me lunging through the crowd to try and grab it from the lucky girl who did... which by the way, I've heard has happened and Larry was very adamant about who got the drumstick. Good for him. He *HANDED* them to the right people. Larry should have bopped the moron who was trying to grab for the drumstick over the head with it... teach the eejit a lesson. heh.

At least us Brits are well behaved! Don't see any threads moaning about the Earls Court gigs! and from experience didn't have anything to complain about too! Unless those who did go to the London gigs have a story to tell?

I never cut but I kind of know someone who did. I had met this lady in a GA line before, so when she saw me she came up and sat with me, even though she was #312 and I was #73. She was nice and I felt sorry for her. She had meant to be there much earlier but her babysitter didn't show up. (I know, tough shit) Lots of people hung around with better-numbered friends but most left.

Whenever the line moved up, so did she. I was stuck. I didn't want to rat her out, but I was afraid I would be put to the end of the line with her if she got caught. I just didn't do anything and no one said anything. As it worked out, the couple in front of me had taken a number for a friend who had worked all day (some say that is not cool either) but she arrived crying (she had not been there at all during the day) and whined that her ticket source had fallen through and she wouldn't be able to go to the concert after all. So, the couple gave their friend's #71 to the lady who sat with me, everyone went inside happy and there was no trouble. She didn't beat me out of a spot because she was an Edge girl and I'm a Bono girl and we went in front of our respective guys
wink.gif
Even though it might sound like she 'cut' it was really no worse than if that girl who had not been there all damn day had gotten the free number. The lady who got it was on the hot sidewalk for 7 hours, that's more than the other girl would have put in.

Hey munkyman, I was in the Hamilton lineup too.. got there about 4 or 4:30 am, to be 70th (iirc) in line... I'm guilty for one person budding, that was my brother.. he had to write an exam that morning, and there were 6 of us holding a spot for one person so i didn't think that was too bad. there's always a lot of line hopping though, just goes to show nice people don't get ahead.

hey Skeek, I think you were right in front of us. I was there with my wife and two buddies. I think your crew had just come straight from the montreal gig the night before. They were showing pictures. On your website, you have a picture of the line up and I'm in the front of the picture with my buddy. I'm the one in the brown cap!! I'm talking more so about the people who waited till the last minute to jump the line or people who were mad that they were at the back so they decided to jump up front. When the line split, I remember looking over at the people thinking " hmmm, I saw that person way back there, and that one too, and same with that guy." It was pretty bad and with the lack of sleep, REALLY got to me!! Plus, the guy who handed out the little numbered peices of paper, which was a HUGE scam to begin with, showed up in the late morning, was in front of me.

I guess this doesn't pertain to cutters, but the only problem I had with GA happened when some jackass in Calgary who was too drunk and stoned to stand in one spot kept swaying heavily into me about every 10 seconds. I normally met him with a firm shoulder pushing back against him, but this was too subtle and I was getting really pissed off since Bad had just started (it was my first U2 concert, and that was the song that I REALLY wanted to hear). So the next time he launched into me, I gave him a firm elbow in return. Of course, this was just totally out of line and he and his buddy had to get up in my face like I'd just done some huge wrong, and after lots of pointless talk (try talking sense to a drunk and stoned guy), I got back to enjoying the rest of Bad, which was half over by now - GRRRRrrrrr!!!!!!
mad.gif

Of course, about a minute after we'd settled our little dispute, high-as-a-kite over here has to tap me on the shoulder and say "Hey man, everything's cool man, everything's cool...let's just forget about it." Um, yeah. I'd forgotten about it the first time. Leave me alone now, pal. So we shake hands, get back to our business. A minute later - "Hey man, it's cool, it's cool..."
rolleyes.gif
Now, I'm not a violent guy by any means whatsoever - but at this point, socking this guy in the face sounded like a really good idea that was getting better by the second. Thankfully though, my friend who I was with saw what was going on and took me by the waist and moved me over to her left side, putting herself between us.

Was a good thing too - I'd hate to remember my first U2 concert with me getting thrown out for fighting.

That was the 4th night. My friend and I (we're both Canadian) were numbers 64 and 65 or something, and we sat next to a British pair and a Scottish guy (Andy). Sounds like we were quite close to you in the line.

WOW!!! I'm glad to know all these problems were not exclusive to those in Hamilton!! Hey Naya, You're bang on. GA is very bittersweet. On a positive note, I'm glad people are sticking up for themsevles as opposed to just being walked over!!

Arun, I met you in line. You and your friends were cool.

And you *can* play the guitar! That was fucking awesome.

But yeah, it was my first GA experience and certainly not a great one, the line itself, and then the mess that occurred when they let people get in. Sigh...

But still, managed to get second row, front and center as I was supposed to (well we really should have had FIRST row), since anitram, and her friends and I got there Friday night....

I also remember seeing Naya there.

Yes you're right. There were fistfights on 10/27.
On 10/28 security was totally inept and as someone else said they seemed to open as many doors as possible and let people in who had just arrived. I got there at 9am and although i was #150 or so i did not get in the heart. i did however manage to get a good spot at the tip of the heart but because of all the pushing/shoving etc i ended up fainting and missing the end of the show. Bastard security people.

Columbus' line had a bunch of people calling out cutters/ditchers. I got to the venue a little after 5pm and would've made it into the heart still had my friend and I only walked up to the people gathered on the outside brim. Instead we dilly-dallied and ended up seeing some folks that were earlier much further back in the line, now in front. They asked us why we weren't wearing the new wristbands. We told them we got held back. Damn food, and dillying. Seriously though, we show up way late in the day past 5pm and still could've made it in the heart? Sheesh, that's Columbus' fanbase for ya! No offense Me3 or Casino.

The point being - as nice as it was that she got the wake up call - at least Sicy got up and went to wait in line all day.

If cowboy hat girl had tickets and a guarentee into the heart, then she needn't have gotten in line anywhere. She should have used her influence to get inside at the door.

(this is tanya btw)

I think of all the shows I went to, that was the worst by far.

I had a couple of total morons behind me who kept trying to push past me all through the show, and I couldn't hear the band at all because of all the screaming & wailing.

Luckily the Providence shows went perfectly (well for me they did) so I didn't have NJ as my last memory of Elevation

Ditto. I saw 2 Chicago shows, and everything seemed to be handled fairly well. There were some line cutters, but they were usually discovered and booed out of the line. It was pretty great when people started yelling for the cutters to take "the walk of shame" to the end of the line.

I remember that sign! I don't remember what the girl looked like, though- I just recall seeing her put on tons of makeup while we were waiting around in the heart.

Well, my experiences have mainly been positive.

Except for the London shows where people thought it was perfectly ok to get a number at midnight and then go to their hotels and sleep and come back around noon. I even got told in my face by some who thought they had done their share of waiting in line at other concerts so they deserved to have a low number and sleep in hotels. I was too tired at that moment to even argue and it was all a mess anyway.

The best lines were definatly Copenhagen and Stockholm. Even if a couple tried to cut the line only ten minutes before we were let in in Stockholm we and the local security effectivly got them shamed out and moved back.

We are used to the GA system though since that's what we have had here as long as I can remember. People know how it works and it's no stress to line up too early. In Copenhagen for example, to the second show on a saturday, it was still only me and two friends in line at 8am. ( it was the hottest two days in history or something though and no shade at the line so no wonder people didn't want to spend it on concrete)
People know it's first come first serve and oblige(word?) to that rule without questioning.

I also know a few people who always got into the heart without ever waiting in line, mainly by using old wristbands that they saved from other shows they've been too. All I can say is that I don't have much left for those people.

Don't worry...I've had them eliminated

I had a kind of bad experience. I was #234 in line, and the word was going down that since there were so many VIP's that there would only be between 200-250 allowed into the heart so I knew I was already on the bubble. Well come time to go in, all of a sudden these six young kids, four girls and two guys, appear from nowhere about six people ahead of me. I went up to them and asked where their numbers were. One girl said someone told them 'you didn't need numbers, if you're here you're here!' Well I didn't believe it and I was pissed. I was determined they wouldn't get ahead of me. I started moving ahead of them, and looking for either a security guy or the fans who kept the numbers to tell.

Well, this girl saw me and was already mad at the 'sneaky six' and assumed I was with them! She pushed me and screamed 'you make me sick! I'm going to security right now!' Well I tried to tell her that I was on her side and I was mad too, but she kept screaming over me, "I don't wanna hear a word you got to say bitch!" I was upset and yelling back, but she ran up to security. When the guy came, I showed him my number and told him I had been there all day and that the 'sneaky six' had cut. The 'sneaky six' were gone, they had fled. They probably cut in somewhere else, farther up. I made it into the heart after all.

What else can I add to this conversation??

It seems that it was very very easy to sneak into the heart....esp. in Hamilton, by the sounds of it. I too know people who snuck in. Barricades don't work. I know how people have gotten around them. I know some of the scams people have pulled. Those pieces of paper they handed out in Hamilton...what if someone lost theirs?

Maybe these venues should look into stepping up security.

Everyone wants to be ahead. Everyone wants to be close. Cometimes people don't think about the feelings of those who have been there all day. Sometimes people have legitimate reasons....people often can't help traffic, exams, family conflicts, etc. that may have cause them to get there late. They see it as an inconvienience and many attempt to take their spots where they think they *rightfully* belong. If everyone did this, there'd be chaos, everyone rushing to be in front.

In the end, it's up to the honest fans not to cut ahead. Those who were honest from the beginning--and--those who cut--who have now learned their lesson.

I had GA tickets in Detroit. Got into the heart. I saw some people cutting, but those of us who were near each other in line yelled at anybody we saw.

Ya, scam isn't even the half of it. Between Ticketbastard and the sales on the net, scumbag assholes skippin the queue due to the greaaaaat Irish cops
rolleyes.gif
and dodgy sales techniques("Oh hiya charlie! Hows things?!?! Oh 20 tickets you say?? Ah the limit is 6, but feck it, buy us a pint tonight and I'll turn a blind eye") Grrrrrrrrrr, I could write a book about the Slane ticket rush experience............

Lets hope they sort things out next time or at least sell em someway besides ticketbastard

I do too! I believe ticketbastard was in on selling the tickets to the scalpers, both legal and illegal ones. Some people reported seeing cashiers handing LARGE numbers of tickets to guys, then refusing the ones in line. They must have made millions off U2.

Haha! Well, if you think I was bad in the chatroom you shoulda seen me when they turned me away at the shop! And the 2,000 people behind me!

I never told so many cops and shop owners how to do their job before, I think I told 5 police men to go fuck themselves, told the guy in the shop who said they "did as best a job as they could" that he was a the biggest bloody idiot in the whole feckin world if that was the case, and then proceeded to kick a wall for fifteen minutes...but hey, it coulda been worse, guys in Dublin were arrested after their reaction to missin out

Yup I can attest to the ticketbastard experience:

For U2's first leg, we stood in line at the local Tower Records. Before we decided on the Tower Records, I called around and searched for a week, try to find 'obscure' Tower Records/Tu Musica locations to see about driving away from the crowds to try and get a good line spot and to avoid the lottery thing with the wristbands. Didn't happen. So, we figured the more people we got in line to help out with the lottery thing, the best chance we'd get. Ended up being just the two of us - my best friend's boyfriend and myself. Armed with three cell phones between us, we never did get through to Ticketbastard. Sal ended up being fifth in line, and when we got our tickets, we discovered that the person first in line was shut out on GA. NO ONE in line in front of us got GA's. In fact, the first five of us in line for tickets got nose-bleed seats in the 400 level... on Edge's side, where the stage just starts to become "behind the stage". GC tickets weren't even available to us. I have no idea why it is that the first person in line ended up with worse seats than us. Only two people in that entire crowd got them: one guy lucked out by asking for GAs and demanding that the dunderhead behind the counter try putting in the request... he got them out of sheer luck. Another girl called up Ticketbastard about a half hour before the tickets went on sale and proceeded to spend the time on the phone buying hockey tickets. As soon as the time approached for the U2 tickets to go on sale, she asked for them. She got them.

The only reason I got GA tickets for the third leg at LA3 was extreme luck. I got them through ticketbastard.com and it was 45 minutes after the first two shows sold out. I still don't know how it happened.

I just hope that the next time U2 tours, the ticket selling procedures won't be so fucked.

I stood in line at Copps in HAmilton. Ended up being about 100 or so back...so no GA for me....

A friend of mine tried Ticketbastard....called in early and kept the operator online. At exactly 9:00 she asked for U2 GA. The operator said there were none and put the request in anyway. Just as my friend was giving her her credit card #, two GAs popped up. SHe nabbed 'em.

I talked to the first person in line at Copps. He asked for GA, but they didn't have any. At 9:00!!!! He was FIRST! Apparently, there was a rumor going around that GAs had gone onsale online the night BEFORE . This I don't understand. WTF? I got better seats than the first guy in line!
