I've never really heard any of his music. However, after reading so much about him from eveyone here, I was thinking of downloading some of his songs.

So, which songs/albums are the good ones?

Hello,

I only have his 2-CD Best Of... so I don't know much about individual albums. I have heard that his debut, My Aim Is True, is really good (it's now re-released with an additional bonus CD). That album also has the song Alison on it (which Bono cited at the end of Bad at the fourth Boston concert).

It's follow up album, This Year's Model, is also very good. Hmmm, I don't think I can really recommend individual albums as each albums has great songs on it (ie. the songs that are also on my Best Of...).

Anyway, here are some great EC songs:
- (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love And Understanding
- Watching The Detectives
- Alison
- Pump It Up (cited by Bono during Elevation at Boston 4)
- Oliver's Army
- I Want You
- Good Year For The Roses (country)
- New Amsterdam

Oh, I was just looking for EC songs on Amazon when I found the CD I have:
The Very Best Of Elvis Costello

Hey, Elvis Costello was the first single I ever purchased, when CD's was just a gleam in a inventor's eye! It was Olivers Army on good 'ol black vinyl!
Thought I would share that with you!

Yeah, get the "Best Of" to fully appreciate EC through the years. I swear, his voice is addictive...just something about it- unlike anyone else. My favorites are: (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love & Understanding; Radio, Radio; and Everyday I Write the Book.

Elvis Costello is grand ! "Alison"'s my all-
time fave
