hey everbody,

ive been wondering about something for a while, and i think i may have come up with an answer to my own question.

the thing ive been wondering about is why is edge using all these epiphones? and afew minutes ago it struck me!

maybe there is an edge signature model on the way!

if there is, will u buy it? what are the chances do u think???

ive just seen it as an odd move 2 play epiphones over gibsons because gibsons are a billion times better.....

First of all, if there's a sig. model to come it'll probably be a Gibson Explorer -76 or a Les paul...

Second of all, "edge using all these epiphones" is kinda misleading the only epiphone he has used are this Casino model now in 2004 and a Epiphone Lap steel for "Surrender" back in the 80's...

no i mean like nowdays, we have seen edge play 4 main electric guitars on new songs this time around so far:

1) the black telecaster from the vertigo video
2) the blue telecaster
3) cherryburst epiphone
and
4) the natural epiphone which is the same model as the cherryburst

i think he's leaning more towards telecasters then strats for the new songs, its good i love tele's........

I myself haven't tried tele's yet but I'm buying one, it'll arrive in a few weeks time.

And yeah, the guitars are different colored but I guess he likes to have replacements in case something happens...

man i love telecasters, i own one and they are the coolest!!! (what colour are you getting it in? mexican or USA?)

my next guitar is going to be a gretch though, like the red one bono used during the popmart tour......

but yeah i honestly see no other reason for edge using those guitars other then a signature model........

still forgot to add it then i spose..........

neway what do the rest of you think of my thought?

i think your quote of Gibsons are a billion times better' shows the power of Brand and Image. The Epi's are obviously good enough for a whole host of people. Nice to see the natural Elite Sheraton that Edge had on the truck

It could be one of those John Lennon reissues. If he did lose his Gibson ES in a flood, then that Epi would be a quick fix -- no center block, a true hollowbody, with similar p90 pickups that the Gibson had, and US made instead of Korean. I'm not sure, but I think the type of Gibson ES he played had p90s and no center block, and was pretty rare -- different from the more common ES335.

Has anyone actually had the chance to compare an Epi to a Gibson? Someone told me that the Epi's are great and are not that inferior to the Gibsons. I'm thinking about buying one.

Downgrade from Gibson to Epi? Are you serious? Have you ever compared an Epiphone thinbody to a Gibson 335? Personally, I'd prefer the Epiphone, and that's a fraction of the pirce. I think Epiphones (especially the thinbodies) are criminally underrated.

On topic: If they were to release an Edge signature epiphone I'd be sure to buy one in a second.

No, if I had a gibson, I'd be very content. I have crap Jackson and I dislike it. I might trade in for an epi

Epiphone in its heyday was a lot better than Gibson. Their vintage guitars are great, so it doesn't surprise me to see Edge playing them.

Maybe he's buying cheaper guitars in case he flips out over something and starts kicking them around the stage.

Has anybody else here got a Gibson Les Paul Custom? I've got one, but it needs some serious work. Some ex-neighbors very recently broke into my apartment, stole it, and dropped it in the parking lot of my apartment complex when the cops showed up. Then, the police put fingerprint dust all over it. I cleaned it as best I could after they were through with it, but I can only hope that stuff didn't get into the humbuckers.

clean it out, and yeah gibsons are alot better then epiphones

although thats mainly because here in australia we only get the shit korean versions, we dont get the other epi's

regardless though gibsons are alot better then epiphones

most of you are only familiar with gibsons and epiphones for our price range. gibson bought and redesigned the lower end epiphones (in the 50's) to be more affordable copies of their line. epihone was actually one of their main competitors. however, top of the line gibsons and epiphones are both very prestigious and amazing guitars. i'm talking above $5000 retail... epiphone makes certain guitars at and above that level that gibson never attempted to change/mimic. they are used mainly by blues guitarists and are unparalled in their sound quality and tone. trust me, edge would never chose an "inferior" guitar. he's one of the least "guitar loyal" musicians out there...and will find the guitar that produces the exact sound he wants at that time. i've heard he goes through dozens of brands/models when recording each album, before deciding on a few. however, if there ever was going to be a signature edge guitar, i would think it would be a strat or a les paul ... because it seems like those have been used the most. (i would actually bet that he would have a "signature effects pedal" before a guitar ... since his effects are what make him stand out).

for a list of people who use epiphones check out www.epiphone.com and click on the "artists" link on the bottom

(btw, i really really really want a les paul custom. are you guys familiar with the "exotic wood" series? i've never actually seen one...only pictures...but those are SOOO beautiful. especially the cherry/mahogany colored one. i have an all mahogany takamine acoustic  )

The guitar doesnt make the player, the player makes the guitar. Whether you have a Gibson or not if you sound like crap it worn make any difference.
