Early U2(1979-1983) Appreciation Thread

Sometimes, lost beneath the hype of the glory days of JT and AB, the avante garde days of Zooropa and Pop, and the recent pop resurgance of ATYCLB and HTDAAB, is the earliest work in the U2 cannon. It kicks ass, and is as raw as U2 ever was. This is just one early U2 playlist I made recently...

1)Gloria
2)October
3)An Cat Dubh
4)Into The Heart
5)Out Of Control
6)11 O'Clock Tick Tock
7)I Will Follow
8)Treasure(Whatever Happened To Pete The Chop)
9)Fire
10)I Threw A Brick Through A Window
11)A Day Without Me
12)Tomorrow
13)Drowning Man
14)New Year's Day
15)Two Hearts Beat As One
16)Party Girl
17)Scarlet
18)Rejoice
19)Surrender
20)Twilight
21)Sunday Bloody Sunday
22)Seconds
23)With A Shout
24)Stories For Boys
25)The Ocean
26)The Electric Co.
27)"40"

And there's plenty I left off that one.

Early U2 1979-1983

Count me in... and leave HTDAAB out of "pop resurgance", please...

1. AB
2. Boy/October (because they feel like a double album to me)
3. HTDAAB
4. War
5. Pop
6. UF
7. Zooropa
8. JT
9. R&H
...
197. ATYCLB

I hope this list is saying anough about my appreciation to that era...

Your list is just a little wrong ...

1. The Unforgettable Fire
2. How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb
3. The Joshua Tree
4. Boy
5. War
6. October

7. Zooropa
8. Achtung Baby
9. Rattle And Hum
10. All That You Can't Leave Behind
11. Pop

Mmmmm ... early U2.

I've been playing October a lot lately and it's absurdly under-rated. I really don't know what there's not to like about it.

If you rank Achtung Baby at eighth, you're a moron without taste. If you rank The Joshua Tree at eighth, you're objective and have a praiseworthy unique viewpoint.

Despite the fact The Joshua Tree is clearly the better album.

TREASURE IS THE BEST U2 SONG EVER.

YOU CAN TRY AND CHANGE MY OPINION. HOWEVER! IT WILL NOT BE CHANGED!

Woo for obsession.

Achtung does very well as an album, but Joshua Tree has many of the best U2 songs.

One Tree Hill for instance

I think it's kind of sad that there's heaps of material on Boy, October, and War that's better than the majority of Achtung Baby.

Gloria = U2 classic of the highest order.

Ah, Liam, we can hold our own party for people who think early U2 was better than the nineties and everyone else on Interference can think we're completely nuts.

I THREW A BRICK, WOOHOO!
