NO BASHING,just a curious question!

she writes or co-writes 99% of her material. the songs "like a virgin," "material girl", "love don't live here anymore", "dress you up", and "bedtime story" were NOT written or produced by her. she had to sing them in order to make the album. and i'm not sure about the material on her true blue album, but she's written everything else. she co-produces everything too.

my biggest complaint with the drowned world tour is how she neglects her audience. it doesn't have the warmth of a U2 show. i try to explain that to madonna fans and they think i'm crazy. but they are not the same kind of concerts, either. a madonna show is a threatical event (BTW, she always sings live with the exception of certain songs), a GOOD U2 show puts the music first.

i don't think madonna writes her music even if she's often credited on her albums...to me she writes her songs just like robin williams writes his'...she goes to the real songwriter and says something like that "i've got a tune and it goes like that: laa, la, la-la,la...etc...could you write it down?"
Of course she'll never admit this but even n'sync and BSB claim they write their songs...ummmm...song is a very big word, indeed

How do you know?

That seems like a pretty big assumption. Madonna is certainly talented enough to write or co-write her own songs.

i said "to me madonna..." and this means "i think...": I've got no proof BUT...for example i've got no proof that BSB or BS don't write their songs (well, actually this is possible as their songs are crap

)

speaking more seriously i've got both ray of light and music and i think these album are too perfectly crafted for someone whose biggest hits just a few years ago were written by professional songwriters...i'd like to listen to these records BEFORE Orbit's and Mirwais' work...i bet i wouldn't recognize a single song

I hear (oh perhaps someone mentioned this above but not in my language!!
tongue.gif
) - she wrote What It Feels Like, and had that 'rape turn porn' scene at the end of the cartoon footage at concert, cause in real life she had been raped, but perhaps all Americans and all knew this.................but I question Mr Mortons book....I hate unauthorised authorised shit!

I used to be a huge Madonna fan, still like her but not that much because what i heard from someone who cooked for her tour when she was in the area.

During her whole stay in NY & NJ she had her press people giving tix away because they weren't sold out as reported. She then canceled a NJ show stating that her voice hurt or something like that....The real reason is because not enough tix sold & she didn't like playing to an empty arena.

So i am not too crazy about her anymore but still like some of her music.

I'm in the exact same boat. I was a Madonna fan for many, many years, from Like a Virgin to the release of Ray of Light. A huge fan, to tell the truth. But now that I'm an adult, I realize that the things she does that I used to think were cool are really quite selfish and excessive.

Like having a mechanical bull installed at her house so she could learn to ride it for the Don't Tell Me video. Having hotel rooms painted orange to match her yoga practice vibe at the time. And as you say, cancelling a show because it isn't a sellout. These are just a few things. Of course, one can't always believe what they hear in the press, but Madonna no longer seems like an independent woman out doing her own thing. I now see her as cold, uncaring toward her fans, and incredibly selfish. (Disclaimer: This is simply my perception of her. Personally, I'm sure she is a nice person. But since I don't know this side of her, well...you get the picture.)

Like others have said, maybe I'm spoiled by U2. Their concerts are like religious experiences. Bono would pull every one of us on stage to dance or play guitar if he had the time. The band uses their fame and fortune to do good things for people and they are open about the many causes they support. This is so much more meaningful to me than anything Madonna has done in her entire career. And of course, their music is just flat out better. Even if Madonna hasn't outgrown pop music, I have.

Sorry for blabbing. I know this was about the concert and not Madonna v. U2. I just wanted to add my 2 cents on why I really didn't care to watch the Drowned World tour after being such a monstrous fan for most of my life.

I was very disappointed in Madonna's concert on TV. She didn't come close to U2 and I am not saying that because I don't like her music I really do. I just didn't like the concert at all.
