REM - One

That Automatic Baby version is sweet, but it's a little fast and Michael Stipe is kinda pushing through it.

Slow that song right down, strip it right back, and get Stipe to deliver it in the haunting way only he could......
(I'm thinking there has to be a soft twinkling piano in there as well)

Kamahl - If You Wear That Velvet Dress

(OMG I can't believe I just posted that!

HELL YES!!!

Have you heard Frank Bennett do With Or Without You? It's great!!

Edited to add - for those outside Australia who don't know who Frank Bennett is, he is a covers artist who does exactly what his name replies, very funny swing/big band covers of popular songs - the thing is, they're often actually very good. Pearl Jams Better Man and With or Without You are two of the best.

Audioslave with Carlos Santana - "Bullet The Blue Sky"

Johnny Cash - "One"

Eddie Vedder (only with acoustic and harmonica) - "Running To Stand Still"

Bruce Springsteen - " All I Want is You"

Coldplay - "Beautiful Day "

Willie Nelson - "In a Little While"

New Voices of Freedom - " I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For "

That's it. As you can see I put two covers which are released. I did that becuase I feel no other artist can do that song justice (besides U2)

Bon Jovi - All I want is you

Rolling Stones - Desire

Art/Garfunkel (either them, or Paul McCartney) - Wild honey

Bruce Springsteen (change that vote) and the E street band - Red hill mining town

Audioslave - Bullet the blue sky

I don't get it - WHY does everyone want Coldplay to cover U2 songs? They sound plenty like U2 already! Coldplay doing U2 would be basically the same song, but more boring. If any band is gonna do a U2 song, it should be a band that is gonna put a totally new spin on it, imo. And Chris Martin singing Streets -

I'm liking the Muse suggestions though, Muse could do an awesome U2 cover, I bet. It'd be interesting to see if they could tackle Bad... or maybe Gone...Love is Blindness, even. Or Tool could do Love is Blindness. I'd love to hear Tool do a U2 song, like Exit. They'd probably make it even more creepy. They could probably do a good cover of Please or Wake Up Dead Man, too.

There needs to be a good punk cover of Sunday Bloody Sunday. I don't know who could do it though, most punk vocalists annoy me... I think it'd be interesting to hear a good punk cover of With or Without You too, blasphemous as it sounds.

The Killers could pull off New Year's Day. Rage Against the Machine (if they were still together...I don't like Audioslave nearly as much...) could do a sweet cover of Bullet, though the live versions of the song from ZooTV and Popmart sound like they could have been written by RATM in the first place.

There are others, but I'm a bit iffy on other bands doing U2 songs, because U2 already does them so damn well, when other bands do the songs they usually suck...
