In the lyrics for Zooropa that come with the CD, on Dirty Day it says at the bottom:

"Hank says

THE DAYS RUN AWAY LIKE HORSES OVER THE HILL"

Who is Hank? And what does this line refer to?

Thanks ahead of time.

A Hank Williams lyric they knocked off?

Other than that, I can think of no logical possibility. That has bothered me for years.

from u2mol:

This Hank is the American poet and novelist Charles Bukowski (1920-1994). The song was dedicated to him on the album sleeve, and Bono has mentioned him and his work in the past. His work is mostly about remaining human in a de-humanizing world of poverty, crime, insanity, and ignorance. It is sort of gritty, but definitely worth checking out.

typhoon... turn your head and cough... here comes dr. fingers...

bukowski rocks. a prof i had in college who worked with bukowski & ginsberg... gave me the greatest compliment a teacher ever gave me in all my schooling...

"for someone who gives off the impression that he doesn't give a shit, you do a damn good job... A+"

back to bukowski...

scarlet... the days run away like wild horses over the hills ... the last night of the earth poems... all poetry books written by bukowski

bono's obviously quite influenced by him
