and do you all remember- this was the first night they played Sargeant Pepper! I had known to expect Higher Ground then All You Need Is Love and then Elevation so i was jumping out of my skin with excitment and then all of a sudden on came Sargeant Pepper and I had no clue what was going on but *what* a song to add and it just added LIFE to the beginning of every following show!!

Happy Boston Three!!!!

where I saw one of the best Fly's ever and met someone who will be my friend for life!

Here are a few of my notes:

Other "highlights": Sweetest Thing was outstanding live. I really loved it- definitely saw the "soft and cuddly" side of U2 during that one. Once again Bullet The Blue Sky was phenomenal. It was special to hear "Angel of Harlem" and "11 O'clock Tick Tock," and I loved "New Years Day".

I liked the fact that Bono spoke more candidly than when he was being taped. Before "Stuck in a Moment" he talked about missing his friend, and "sometimes the most important thing you can do for your friend is to tell them to fuck off. My friends do that for me- three of them are right here." He went on to explain that he liked being able to be explicit at times, and it is in his Irish nature.

This is so true! He was really casual with the fans, interacting and joking with them a lot, rambling on and on (dream come true! ;-)). You could almost see the relief on his face that they had finished taping! He was quite playful at this show, and at the same time, pretty emotional at times.

When they started 11:00 I nearly burst my vocal chords for sure!



So many mixed emotions!

I had the best GC seat ever for Boston 3 and the heart for Boston 4.
Sweetest Thing, 11 o'clock, and AIWIY stand out from night 3 and well everything from night 4 just blew me away.
It was a dream come true for this Texan gal to see "her" band in Boston.

Well, I'm a little late showing up in this thread, but I was at Boston 2 and 3 (where I sat in the last row of the Fleet, behind the stage) and still don't have the words to describe it. Every time I hear Elevation I think back to seeing them take the stage with the lights on...

I went with a bunch of friends who are casual U2 fans and even they were blown away. "Gone" was unbelievable. I can't wait for the next tour!

Boston 4 remains my all-time favorite show! Every time you turned around they were throwing a huge surprise at us - EBTTRT, Out of Control, Party Girl, She's a Mystery to Me! The guys were wayyy laid back and enjoying themselves, joking around .... it was such a party atmosphere! The perfect ending to a perfect week ......

Boston 4 was the only show I saw on the tour. Was it really a year ago today? I'll have to dig out the bootleg. I remember being totally surprised by "Out Of Control" and how Bono was really giving it his all. "Party Girl" & "Mystery Girl" were nice treats too.

Ya... you didn't make it, but apparently your arms did when they blocked my view in the heart.

Also, apparently your feet made it to Boston 4 as well when they stepped on me.

Also, it's clear your head appeared as you definitely had partaken in a few "token" libations.

Oh, and your body certainly was there as it was tackled hard by the bodyguard when you raced up the heart ramp to the stage.

But mostly, your heart made it as you beamed with a pride and joy only a U2 fan could know, when you carried Bono.

God I loved this show. Here's my little recap of the event. Here's what a U2 geek I am, I actually took notes when I got back to the hotel after the show.

I did not want to forget anything!!!

Here are some the highlights:

Oooh I loved Mysterious Ways . . . When Bono sang "on your knees boy" I thought I might go right through the roof.

I absolutely loved it when Larry and Adam joined Bono and The Edge at the tip of the heart for Desire.

Bullet really stayed with me. Bono's diatribe at the end of the song was especially strong. His anger about war was really apparent. It seemed to me that the crowd was really shocked by his words. Anybody else remember that?

Towards the end of show, Bono broke into a little bit of Elvis Costello's, Allison. I think he was reflecting on his own Ali. He changed the words around and said something like "she's tired of this world". My guess is that she was so tired being a new mom again and all. Anyone care to comment?

Some guy (now I know who ) carried Bono around on the stage. That was so cool!

U2 leaves many memories behind at the FleetCenter

And so it ended, four nights of U2mania in the American city that first adopted
the Dublin rockers so long ago. The band was playing ''Walk On,'' its final
encore at the sold-out FleetCenter Saturday, when a large, muscular guy leapt
up onto the heart-shaped catwalk and sprinted to the stage before a security
man tackled him. The man reached out plaintively, theatrically, to singer Bono,
who spied him, rushed over, and angrily wrestled the security man off the fan.
Bono and the fan hugged. The fan picked the fireplug-built Bono up, twirled
him around, set him down. The fan went off, backstage. The band finished up.
The crowd was delirious.

We suspect it was a set-up, the guy a plant, but it made for good drama and
that, to a degree, is what U2 is about, once again. On their latest CD, ''All
That You Can't Leave Behind,'' and on this ''Elevation'' tour, they've embraced
the wide-screen, anthemic rock sound that once defined them, leaving behind
the more experimental/techno direction of ''Pop'' and the ironic trappings of
the ''Pop Mart'' tour. It's back to home base for U2, and if it is a conservative
move, it's also an effective one. Yes, they're the greatest band of our time.

Much has been made of the band's, and particularly Bono's, celebrity. Fair
enough, it's the age we live in. But celebrity comes about for a reason
(sometimes), from a source, and that's the connection U2 has made musically.
They're the rare band that understands cynicism and negativity and still
whooshes us toward the light. There's an undertone of spirituality and a
palpable political punch. And there's a history of this. U2 may be one of the
last bands to have this kind of career, with rock becoming more and more
disposable, tastes shifting with the wind, and everybody oriented toward the
quick hit, not the career build. The fact that the band's composition remains
the same - the ace rhythm section of drummer Larry Mullen Jr. and Adam
Clayton being the unsung half - means something, too, in an ever-fractured
age.

Some particulars: They moved ''Pride (In the Name of Love)'' up to No. 2 in
the set, bringing the crowd close to ecstasy, took everyone to the top with
''Out of Control,'' a rarely played early tune, and spun the sensual spell of
''Mysterious Ways.'' Bono gave the Beatles' ''In My Life'' an a cappella
treatment.

How much of a love affair was it? Bono, who was in fine voice, and guitarist
the Edge used the catwalk to interact with each other (a peck on the cheek
from singer to guitarist) and the audience. During ''The Fly,'' which featured
a snippet from Iggy Pop's ''Lust for Life,'' Bono appeared to be making love
to the audience. After ''Out of Control,'' Bono referenced the Edge's
instrument and said, ''This guitar has carried us a long way: You people
have carried us a long way; this city has carried us a long way.'' Then came
''Sunday Bloody Sunday,'' a blast of righteous rock with a bit of Bob Marley's
''Get Up, Stand Up,'' tossed in, and ''Desire'' with a Bo Diddley beat
beginning and a ''Gloria'' end. ''Bad,'' the most moving laundry list of human
emotions you'll ever here, incorporated Elvis Costello's ''Alison'' - ''I know
this world is killing you'' - doubly clever because Alison is Bono's wife's
name and Costello was in the house.

More hits came: ''Where the Streets Have No Name,'' ''Beautiful Day,'' ''Bullet
the Blue Sky'' (with a Charlton Heston pro-gun video clip segueing into a shot
of a young child picking up a handgun and Bono intoning about an America
''at war with itself''), ''With or Without You,'' and ''One.'' For the encore, the
Edge donned a Bruins jersey and Bono saluted ex-Bruin Ray Bourque and
the Colorado Avalanche (Boston's adopted hockey team) as it was headed
toward a Stanley Cup victory. That triumphant spirit was everywhere Saturday -
a very good day to be alive.

We raved about P.J. Harvey when she played the Paradise last fall. Nothing's
changed our mind. She and her band's opening set was terse, shimmering,
sexy - strong in its own right and a perfect tablesetter for U2.

1.While singing Stay at the tip, Bono was containing himself as 2 beautiful model girl fans were beckoning to be pulled up mouthing every word w/tears in their eyes. It was a great display of self-control on Bono's part for most mortal men.

2. Out of Control was played-
Bono mused to the crowd mid-song..saying-

While pointing at Edge's guitar-"Same guitar.This song was written w/this same guitar, same guitar. This guitar has CARRIED US a long way. This city has carried US a long way.
You PEOPLE have CARRIED US a long long way.
We're a LONG LONG way from HOME and THINGS
GET
SILLY when youre a LONG WAY FROM HOME,OUT OF CONTROOOOOL!, OUTTA CONTROOOOOOOL!!"
I could relate to this as I was 3000 mis from home,....
attempting to maintain control..

I've been kinda sad today thinking about the show. It was the absolute best night of my life, for many reasons, and sometimes I get bummed bc I start wondering if I'll ever feel that happy and untouchable again. Reading what you wrote was like a slap in the face for me, in a good way, like "Wake up girl!"--because there's no reason to be sad about it being over. I should be counting my blessings that I was able to be there and that I know what it's like to feel on top of the world.
