Peterrrrr, you're full of shitttttttt.

Go easy, mate. I happen to agree that Bono's voice was nothing short of awe-inspiring on Lovetown, but if I have learned one thing from these boards, it's that no consensus will ever be reached about Bono's voice, past the fact that he has one. I personally can't stand some of his Elevation-era singing, which others love.
I think the mechanics of Bono's ever-changing vocal styles are somewhere up there with quantum dynamics in terms of stuff it's just hard to explain. I mean, give me a boot of a common song, and I can tell you to within a year when it was recorded, just by Bono's voice and phrasing (well, the elevation/vertigo tours might give me a bit of trouble). How many other singers are so versatile, so chameleonic, so different from tour to tour? None at all, as far as I know. And the man has never really sounded bad, except when his voice has been just plain shot on bad nights; and everyone hears him in a different way. All we can argue about is when he sounded pretty damn good, and when he sounded really fucking good.
Anyway, I don't think any disrespect was meant.

Well my vote goes to 1986-06-15 - East Rutherford, his voice has never been so strong that it is on the show, I think this show is his peak in his voice era. In my opinion this show got the best SBS, Pride and Bad.

Turn up the speakers loud on this one:

Another great one is 1993-08-28 - Dublin and also 2005-12-04 - Boston
would love a word count on the amount of times you say voice in your posts........bet your up there with bono's kneel

True, true. Before the mods pull me up, I apologise for the insulting tone. Strip away the insults, however, and I stand by what I've said. Peterrrrr likes to slag off Bono's Lovetown voice, but I'm waiting for him to present some concrete examples. I believe he didn't give me a single example of this "kermit" voice (speaking of that, I may not be a fan of ZooTV, but when I speak my mind about it, at least I don't throw around nonsensical phrases such as "kermit voice").

I would like Peterrrrr to give me examples of poor singing on Lovetown from SOUNDBOARD QUALITY BOOTLEGS or high quality audience audio. We're talking the four Dublin shows and 1989-11-18, Sydney here. Poor quality audience recordings can do all kinds of crazy things to Bono's voice - there's one Brisbane bootleg where Bono sounds dead-set like a chipmunk just because the equipment used to record the show is so shoddy. I think one Melbourne show is plagued with that problem too. I would love Peterrrrr to explain why Bono's vocals from 1989-12-26, ESPECIALLY Streets and One Tree Hill, are anything less than brilliant. The man has power, passion, projection, he holds his notes and hits them sweetly, and his range is awe-inspiring (compare the intro of Streets to the falsetto at the end to the improv in One Tree Hill).

:lmao:

I especially love how the vocal points emphasised are often ones that don't really matter. For example, Bono hit a high C. Great. I can hit a high C. Only problem is, it sounds like three cats being strangled!

Seriously, go listen to the bootleg "Bad At Its Best" and get a clue. I'm sick of your nonsense posts. I think most of us are. You harp on and on about singing even though many of your posts demonstrate that you know even less about it than I do.

I knew that you would reply this post and defend his lovetown voice, there were a thread here earlier this year about this and what I remember there were 50/50 about wich one that was best JT or LT voice, just compare WOWY, ISHFWILF, Bad.. He can't hold the notes on LT like he did on JT tour, just listen to the Wide Awakes from Bad from Rotterdam, "Wide Awaake eh eh yeah yeah". JT: Wiiiiiiiiiide Awaaaaaaake". He had a much more wide, fuller and wide voice on JT, thats not shit, thats a real fact.

Have you heard the story about the soundboard recordings on the Dublin shows from 89? The sb recordings was made for a throat specialist(doctor) to analyze his voice, he gave a warning to Bono that he must stop sing like he did on LT tour or else he would destroyed his voice, to much screaming. Screaming he didnt need to do on JT tour to hit the same notes.

I accept your opinion and Im not upset with yours, you have to accept everyone thougths.

Well explain to me WHY you think that the LT versions of these songs are better then JT version of the same songs:

WOWY(R & H)
ISHFWILF(R & H and Chicago 1987)
Bad(I havent heard any LT version when he hit "Wide Awake" properly like he did on JT)

I took these songs a examples because they are hard to sing.

Agreed. I just re-listened to the Rotterdam bootleg version, and I must say I'm disappointed with Bono's vocals. I still say the UF tour versions of Bad were the best.

Everyone has their own difference perspectives of good Bono voices, and most of the time they don't hinge on whether or not he held "Touch me" for 5 seconds or 7 seconds.

My favorite Bono voice is the one he used on the 2000 Irving Plaza show. I think he sounded so different from other tours, and I don't care as to whether or not he hit this or that high note.

Every song sounds perfect in that voice from that show to me.

Well I understand what you are saying, most of what we're talking about is subjective, but there is an objective way to judge someone's voice. And if they can't hit the notes, stay in pitch, they usually aren't worth writing home about.

My fav. version of Bad is January 10th 1990. I accept as partially true that Bono did scream a lot on the Love Town tour. But listen to this version of Bad, in particular the screams of "All I Want Is You" just as Edge goes into his solo. Boy oh boy what screams they are! So powerful. And from memory this version of Bad has Norweigan Wood at the end which is my personal favourite Bad snippet.

Well, I thought I would give this a little bump and tell fellow Bad fanatics to give Saitama 3 (Dec. 4th Japan) a listen.

This is possibly the best audio quality for Bad on the whole V tour. Sure, the song only clocks in at just under 6 minutes with a short closing snippet of Ruby Tuesday, but this is an amazing recording of Bono's vocals. Suprisingly clean, clear and strong for an audience recording. He really nails the "WIDE AWAKE." You'd think this was a soundboard. Seriously. Also, check out how great the guitar effects come out during the "not fade away" parts.

The last performance of Bad on the V Tour and it is stunningly very well recorded. My thanks to the recorder. Many, many thanks.

My three favorite versions these days are the Zoo TV Dublin one mentioned by corianderstem (Bono's falsetto in the "wide awake" portion is just gorgeous), the Dublin 12/27/89 version, and Bad's Vertigo debut, in Glendale on 4/15/05.

The studio version is pretty, but it just can't compare to live versions. I heard it first in Rattle & Hum, and it's been my favorite song ever since. I hope I get to hear it live in person someday :sigh:
