War Child
I know ENO has his own sound and his influnce with U2 is great.
I was just listening to Boomerang I (which we will all agree is one of the most ENO inspired U2 tracks of the 80s) and i realized how closely it resembled the Passengers....
even with a ten year gap between them, they almost seem like they could go together. (Almost. the drums at the start are a bit too heavy perhaps)
But I think Boomerang would fit very well with Passengers. (it sounds very similar to Theme From Let's Go Native)
Which begs the question: did U2 really "get weird" in the mid 90s.... or were they always like that deep down.
I believe the latter.
certain songs from all the eras have that strange quality (Endless Deep is another. As are Stateless, Levitate and Neon Lights)
it just goes to show you, no matter what the critics say, U2 has always been U2.
