Last night on national TV show Lateline Australia's treasurer and host of the G20 summit, Peter Costello said he would be happy to speak with Bono should the rockstar activist be interested in a meeting. Bono, in conjunction with the Make Poverty History Campaign is calling for Australia to increase foreign aid to 0.7% of GDP, the figure recommended by the UN. Australian Prime Minister, John Howard has previously declined such a meeting due to a proviso from the U2 frontman that Australia agree to increase international aid to the recommended figure.

Mr Costello, who is widely held to have ambitions for the Prime Ministership, conceded that Australia has ambitions to reach aid targets of 0.7% of GDP, but that current aid contributions were less than half this rate. Mr Costello's brother, Rev. Tim Costello who is CEO of World Vision Australia and also involved in the Make Poverty History Campaign described Bono as a "global prophet".
