This morning on the radio, after WOWY went off the DJs mentioned how Bono was just honored by Musicares and he was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. Then they said he had another honor, and would be awarded in Paris by the French Pres. tonight. They tried to pronounce the name of the event but couldn't. Does anyone know anything about this? I thought we here at Interference knew all this stuff weeks before it ever happens? Help please!

U2Log.com is saying the same thing now but for tomorrow and that he's getting the Legion of Honor. Chirac's schedule does have Bono on it tomorrow, although it doesn't specifically say Legion of Honor (It's the L'Agenda page). Woo-hoo. :)

Another award, another Bono photo op for PLEBA ;)

Think he'll show up with the beard?

I'm not much of a Chirac fan either, he's just another pol to me, but hell, Bono deserves the award if you ask me. It's an honor. I think this is cool. Presidents come and go but this award has been around for a long time. If the President was still Mitterand there would have been a bunch of complaints about him taking the award from a Socialist. President X would have been under fire for God knows what. It's the nature of the political beast.

Sorry for being an ignorant, but what happened during the 1995 EMAs????

If memory served, Bono made some scathing comments about France's nuclear weaponry in front of a Parisian audience. I can't remember at the moment...will need to look it up.

Anyway, the Legion of Honour is France's highest honour, I believe, so it's really cool Bono's getting it.

"what a night! what a city! what a show!... what a bomb! what a mistake! what a f****** president!" (MTV Music Awards in Paris, 1995)
