Bono spitting on the Irish flag - around 10 years ago?

I was in work tonight, and the woman I was working with said that one of her friends went right off U2 when she saw them in concert and they spat on the Irish flag. I said that it was strange, maybe it was during SBS, protesting against the IRA and all that (kind of like the speech in Rattle and Hum during SBS).

Anyway, is there any truth to this at all and if so, why?

I'm sure he spits all the time....it tends to happen when you are singing. Perhaps an Irish flag had the misfortune of being in the line of fire.

sorry..but your friend is mis-informed or misguided in what she thinks she saw.

I do apologise, it was supposed to happen at a Brussels gig.

Brussels, eh? The funny thing about that is that U2 haven't played in Brussels at any point between the JT Tour (1987-07-08, Vorst National) and the Vertigo Tour (2005-06-10, King Baudouin Stadium).

Your thread title says 'around ten years ago' - well, that was 1995, when U2 didn't tour, and the closest tour dates anywhere in Belgium were:

1992-05-09, Flanders Expo Hall, Gent
1993-05-29, Festival Grounds, Werchter
1997-07-25, Festival Grounds, Werchter

So this definitely stinks of a load of rot.
