The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

It was Red Hill that cemented my love for U2, it sucks to know that there are no live versions available. Any covers worth listening to?

I think Dream Theater's cover is great.

ive seen those screens of the video that are around the net, and it looks like the typical cheesy U2 video except worse. it looks like they're down in a mine or something. really lame but kind of funny

The plot was actually about a prodigal son (Bono) returning home to work in the coal mines with his two brothers (Larry and Adam) and his father (Edge, in a beard). The family was embarrassed when Bono did stuff like lost control of a pickax, covered himself in soot and jumped out of the darkness at fellow miners and complained of 'the black lung' after only one day. Eventually, the son goes back to New York to continue his quest to be a rock star, and the video ends with Bono saving the life of the prime minister of Thailand while Papa Edge looks on with pride from his local bar.

It was still better than the Discotheque video.

Hey don't diss the Discotheque video!

That video makes me laugh so hard every time I see it, and in a good way even! The part where Edge is showing off his dance skills to bono and Larry is hilarious. And of course the end with the Village People is classic, especially considering how enthused Larry was during that part.

That's Bono, he's so hot right now.

And really, when Bono's giving that intense look to the cameras, isn't that his Blue Steel?

the fact that Bono could not sing it is an excuse... they could play it some notes lower.. it would've been easier to sing... Come on, they've already made it with other live versions!

Red Hill Mining Town was a sucker punch to Thatcher's government and a hymn of support to the miners.

That's probably the real reason why they didn't realise it as a single - it would have been too controversial and they would have been labelled as socialists and it would have take years to shake off the label.
