I think "Unchained Melody" is U2's best cover. I've always loved that song and to have my favorite singer sing it

I haven't much on U2 covers by other bands, but I have heard REM playing "One" and I liked it.

?....we?re being thrown out of the studio, we spent 10 minutes writing this next song, 10 minutes recording it, 10 minutes mixing it, 10 minutes playing it back and that?s nothing to do with why it?s called ?40??.? ? Bono - 4/29/87, Chicago, IL

I've only heard one or two people cover U2 songs, but Unchained Melody or Can't Help Falling in Love are my favourite covers by U2.

"You must not look down on someone just 'cos they are 14 years old. When I was that age I listened to the music of John Lennon and it changed my way of seeing things, so I'm just glad that 14 year olds are coming to see U2 rather than group X." - Bono, 1988

I haven't heard anyone's cover of a U2 song. I tend to shy away from those. This guy once told me that Sublime's version of "Sunday Bloody Sunday" is better than U2's and that really pissed me off, so...anyway...

My favorite covers U2 has done...

"Can't Help Falling in Love"
"I Remember You" by The Ramones

i think some guy on napster had labeled a cover of sunday bloody sunday, as being done by sublime and it kind of spread out of control. i also seen it labeled as a smashing pumpkins cover, but it originally was a solo edge version of it, him just singing it by himself. i think it was from the pop mart tour.

oh yeah and U2's cover of Everlasting Love, and Day Dream believer are my picks.

The more of these I drink the more Bono makes sense.. - Bean from the KROQ Breakfast with U2.

R.E.M.'s cover of "One" positively bleeds.

And I love U2 doing "People Get Ready."
"Dancing Barefoot" is a close second, or possibly "In My Life."

Well, the God I believe in isn't short on cash, mister. --Bono

But a day will come
In this dawning age
When an honest man
Sees an honest wage.

I actually really liked the cover of Won't get fooled again/we don't get fooled again whatever the exact name is

I was arguing about it with someone today who said it was crap but I thought Bono put so much into that song at Irving Plaza. Maybe part of it is because it was live which is just so more emotional in general.

"And when it's raining,
raining hard, that's when the rain will break my heart."

Night and Day is one of the best cover version of a song of all times. The way U2 interpretted the meaning of the song through the music is beyond genious.

Other good covers are:

Dancing Barefoot
Paint It Black
Won't Get Fooled Again.

Personally I haven't heard a good U2 cover.

It's a tie between, "Can't help falling in love" and "Everlasting Love". Close second, Bruce Springsteen's "My Hometown" at Croke Park, Ireland, 1985

Night and Day is so brilliant it's mind unravelling.

Best U2 covers:
Madelyniris - Drowning Man
P.O.D. - Bullet the Blue Sky

I liked U2's cover of "Won't Get Fooled Again." Not as good as the Who, but still rockin'!

As for U2 covers:
P.O.D. - Bullet the Blue Sky
Elvis Costello - Please
Collective Soul - I Will Follow
Cassandra Wilson - Love Is Blindness

And are you guys talking about the Automatic Baby (half REM, half U2) cover of "One" or did REM actually cover that song as a band? If it's the full REM then I really need to check that out!

Best cover of a U2 song: Cassandra Wilson singing Love Is Blindness.

Best U2 cover: I love the Lovetown version of All Along the Watchtower (especially the new years eve version - smoking!)

I personally loved U2's version of ONJ's and Cliff Richard's hit, "Suddenly".

As far as others covering U2? I like Air Supply's version of "Discoteque"

Dancind Barefoot is amazing, as is Everlasting Love.

As for artists covering U2 songs:
P.O.D.~ Bullet the Blue Sky
Ginny Owens~ 40 (on list because it's an interesting recording, changed to electronica)
Radiohead- Sunday Bloody Sunday (fairly certain this isn't Edge, due to the fact that I have Sarajevo and it sounds completely different)

That's not actually Radiohead, nor is it Smashing Pumpkins, or
Sublime or anyone.. rather it's Edge in Sarajevo
