Please vote for your LEAST FAVOURITE song.

Welcome to the first round for War in Best Song Survivor! The object of this game is to find Interference's favourite U2 song. To do so, songs will be eliminated album-by-album in 24 hour long rounds to leave the favourites to contest a final that will determine the very favourite. Three War songs proceed to the early eighties quarter final. Only original U2 songs with official studio releases will compete. Due to dominating past tournaments and the inevitable likelihood that they will do the same this time, Where The Streets Have No Name and One are not in the tournament and can be assumed default equal #1 over and above the ultimate winner.

In War's first round, Red Light was given a right beating.

QUARTER FINALISTS
1. I Will Follow
2. Out Of Control
3. The Electric Co.
4. Gloria
5. Tomorrow

ELIMINATED FROM WAR
10. Red Light

LAST ROUND'S RESULTS
31 votes: Red Light
8: The Refugee
3: Surrender
2: Drowning Man, Two Hearts Beat As One, 40
1: New Year's Day
0: Sunday Bloody Sunday, Seconds, Like A Song
(Total votes: 49 - mercy ruled)

The Refugee, for sure, I'd've voted for it in the first round. Nothing that wrong with Red Light, and I hope Surrender sticks around for a bit.

This is actually one of my least-listened-to albums, for some reason. It's extraordinarily top heavy.

Two votes for Drowning Man?

This round is a harder choice for me, a toss between THBAO and 40. I've just never dug 40's studio version or THBAO that much, though I don't think either are really bad.

Went with THBAO this time around, in any case.

I feel like a Seconds vote would be wasted at this point. So it'll be between Refugee and 40 for me.

How did Fire get fucked up in October? Is it because of Saturday night?

Nah, Fire's just never been rated well on this forum. It's been chucked out pretty early from past editions too.

Ah. This is hard. The only song I don't like on War is Red Light.
I think my vote will have to go to 40 this round. It's a sweet live song, but kind of bland albumwise.

My ranking -

1. Sunday Bloody Sunday
2. New Year's Day
3. Like A Song
4. Surrender
5. Two Hearts Beat As One
6. Seconds
7. Drowning Man
8. 40
9. The Refugee
10. Red Light

That seems about right for me, at the moment.

Ah okay. I've always loved it, I'd preferred it if something like Rejoice and Fire had gone through,

Yeah, I wanted Gloria and Rejoice. Ah well.

As for War, my ranking:

1. New Year's Day
2. Like A Song
3. Seconds
4. Sunday Bloody Sunday
5. Surrender
6. Drowning Man
7. The Refugee
8. 40
9. Two Hearts Beat As One
10. Red Light

3-6 are kind of equal ... Drowning Man used to be a strong 3rd but I'm just not into it at the moment, I don't really know why.

My ranking:

2. Drowning Man
3. Like A Song
4. Seconds
5. Surrender
6. Two Hearts Beat As One
7. Sunday Bloody Sunday
8. The Refugee
9. 40
10. Red Light

Voted Two Hearts Beat As One.
Next up would be The Refugee.

Why is it that the 2nd half of this album ( not inc Surrender ) is so crap.
Ok 40 is great live but the studio version is not good.

This reminds me of ATYCLB , 2nd half of that album is also crap ( not inc WILATW offcourse )

Cheers ,

Mauwer

My guess is that SBS and NYD will advance. And then there'll be a fight between Seconds, Like A Song, and Drowning Man for the 3rd slot.

Like A Song. 2nd worse song on the album for me and nowhere near as good as Seconds and Drowning Man, of which I hope at least one makes it to slot 3.

Judging by past Survivors, I think Like A Song has the best chance of taking the 3rd slot.
