Hello all,

I just saw this top 19 of best selling US albums (don't ask me where I got it and I don't have more numbers). I thought you might find it interesting.

1) Shaggy - "Hotshot" (4.2 million).
2) Destinys Child - "Survivor" (2.9 million).
3) "Now Thats What I Call Music 6" (2.8 million).
4) NSync - "Celebrity" (2.8 million).
5) Staind - "Break the Cycle" (2.7 million).
6) The Dave Matthews Band - "Everyday" (2.6 million).
7) The Beatles "1" (2.5 million).
8 ) Janet Jackson - "All for You" (2.2 million).
9) Dido - "No Angel" (2.1 million).
10) Linkin Park - "Hybrid Theory" (2.1 million).
11) Limp Bizkit (2.1 million).
12) Nelly (2 million).
13) the "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack (1.9 million).
14) the "Save the Last Dance for Me" soundtrack (1.8 million).
15) Jennifer Lopez - "J.Lo" (1.8 million).
16) Tupac Shakur - "Until the End of Time" (1.7 million).
17) Lifehouse - "No Name Face" (1.6 million).
18 ) Alicia Keys (1.6 million).
19) the "Coyote Ugly" soundtrack (1.6 million).

So unfortunately no U2, but hopefully they're just bubbling under these 19 (and still have a chance to increase their sales).

C ya!

Spearhead - People In Tha Middle

the key term is 2001. U2 sold over a million copies in 2000 and over a million in 2001. Quite an accomplishment actually.

These figures are soundscan figures for 2001 only! Starting the first week January 2001. Whats interesting is that when Billboard magazine does its year end charts, it uses a year that starts the 3rd week of November 2000 and ends with the 2nd week of November 2001. They have done this every year. The reason is so they can put out a total sales report before Christmas that represents a full year. Also, the Billboard music awards are the first week of December, so for it to represent a full year of sales, they have to include the last 6 or 7 weeks(Christmas season) in next years totals. In mid January, Billboard sometimes puts out the soundscan figure for the chalendar year First week of January to last week of December.
Still, even with the added 7 weeks, U2 will probably be no higher than #19 in the USA for the year. I've looked at how things stack up based on shipments(RIAA) since November of last year and U2 come in at #19. Things look fantastic worldwide though! More about that in another thread.
ATYCLB first 9 weeks on chart took place in the year 2000. Total Soundscan sales in those weeks were 1,582,000. There have been 34 weeks in the year 2001 so far, and ATYCLB has sold 1,207,000 copies in those 34 weeks. U2s combined 43 week 2000/2001 total is 2,789,000! Those first 9 weeks make a HUGE difference. Good thing will be able to count 7 of them when Billboard does its year end Chart in December!

Based on Shipped figures from RIAA since October/November 2000 until the end of August 2001, here are the top 20 albums in the USA:

1. Backstreet Boys (Black and Blue) 8 million
2. Beatles (1) 7 million
3. Shaggy (Hotshot) 6 million
4. Limp Bizkit (Chocolate....) 5 million
5. N'Sync (Celebrity) 5 million
6. Various (Now 5) 4 million
7. Various (Now 6) 3 million
8. Dido (No Angel) 3 million
9. 2 PAC (Until The End Of Time) 3 million
10. Creed (Human clay) 3 million
11. Destiny's Child (Survivor) 3 million
12. JA Rule (Rule 3:36) 3 million
13. Kelly, R. (Tp-2.com) 3 million
14. Lenny Kravitz (Greatest Hits) 3 million
15. Linkin Park (Hybrid Theory) 3 million
16. Outkast (Stankonia) 3 million
17. Sade (Lovers Rock) 3 million
18. Stained (Break The Cycle) 3 million
19. U2 (ATYCLB) 2.9 million
20. Madonna (Music) 2.5-2.9 million

This is a better snapshot of what the Billboard music awards the first week in December and the Year end chart will look like. Again third week of November 2000 to 2nd week of November 2001 is what the year end Billboard chart will be based as will nominees and awards given out at the Billboard Music awards in the first week of December.
