Sad that Bass Trap was the first to go. I'm sure Axver is fuming.

Let's try to get participation up, folks, the first round didn't do as well as most of the preliminary rounds!

Can't believe you heathens voted out one of the prettiest and most relaxing songs U2 have ever recorded.

Anyway, Heartbreak Hotel, of course.

Disappearing Act til it fucks off. Had no idea it was popular to the point where not only does it make it to the final, it's outlasting Bass Trap?? Very sad to see it go.

Voting to safe the gorgeous Walk to the Water and excellent Disappearing Act. Both songs are splendid.

A Room at the Heartbreak Hotel is skippable and not really my kind of thing with the backing vocals. This may help save the other two.

Seriously, I'm baffled by this too. I thought there was general agreement that the songs U2 touched up for the remasters were inferior to anything completed in the actual era. Why you would listen to Disappearing Act with Shithouse Bono on vocals when you can listen to a song with UF Bono singing 100x better is beyond me.

Disappearing Act's voters need to do! a! dis! uh! peer! ing! act!

How can one vote for walk to the water with any knowledge of music????

Because it's somewhat boring and not one of the better JT era b-sides?

Because it's somewhat boring and not one of the better JT era b-sides?

WTTW takes a while to get going, and it's mostly atmospheric build-up, but to me they pay-off - 'let me love you/let me love you/leeeeeeeeeeet meeeeeeee' - is executed well enough to make it worth it. Impassioned and soulful.

Ranking of JT b-sides:

1. Luminous Times
2. Sweetest Thing
3. Walk To The Water
4. Deep In The Heart
5. Spanish Eyes
6. Silver And Gold
7. Race Against Time

5&6 might be reversed.

Yeah I'm going to have to disagree with that strongly:

1. Spanish Eyes
2. Luminous Times
...
... plenty of daylight ...
...
3. Silver and Gold
4. Deep in the Heart
5. Race Against Time
...
6. Walk to the Water
...
...
...
...
...
... do I have something else to do? ...
...
7. Sweetest Thing

1 and 2 are legitimate U2 classics, and the order of 3-5 is somewhat arbitrary. But no doubt in my mind which two are the era's weakest.

Different strokes. I love them all, and I guess Spanish Eyes is a classic in that it's more well-known and has been played live, but I find myself reaching for others before it.

Sweetest Thing is just a great pop song.

Too trite for me. I don't really like the vocals of the original and the 1998 version is too glossy.

I've always found it just a bit bizarre that one of the Sweetest Thing singles had the Red Rocks versions of Twilight and An Cat Dubh/Into the Heart as b-sides. But those were fucking awesome recordings so I've cranked them heaps over the years.

Is this Party Girl (Live) or Trash, Trampoline & the Party Girl? Because the latter would be easily the worst song here.

Is this Party Girl (Live) or Trash, Trampoline & the Party Girl? Because the latter would be easily the worst song here.

Whichever one you want it to be. From the intro thread:

It is important to note that you will be encouraged to consider each song on its merits as a song and not on any particular version or recording of it. This means you can vote for Party Girl or 11 O'Clock Tick Tock based on a live version and not steer away from it because the studio version might be sub-par to you, for example, or that you can vote for Lady With The Spinning Head regardless of which version you prefer, or that you can vote Sweetest Thing regardless of whether you prefer the single version or the original version. That kind of thing.

These survivors are as much about songwriting as they are anything else. So I don't anyone dismissing a song they otherwise like because a particular recording isn't to their liking.

So, in short, you vote based on whatever your favorite version of each track is.

Oh please let's have a tie between Disappearing Act and Heartbreak Hotel. Not only will it speed up the tournament by a round, but it'll get rid of two shit songs in one fell swoop.

.

Yeah, I like Walk to the Water quite a bit.

How Disappearing Act made it to the finals, let alone outlasted Bass Trap is baffling.
Time for it to live up to its title.

Jesus fucking christ taste in EYKIW is at an all-time low if Bass Trap is the first song eliminated and Walk to the Water, close to the best song here, is on the chopping block next. Fucking hell :down::down::down::down:

Was Bass Trap a huge hit in Australia and we just missed it? ;)

It's being touted to replace our current national anthem. Just you wait and hear what plays out the speakers when Australia wins Gold medals at Tokyo 2020 ?

Ha, I was going to vote a few minutes ago before the poll closed but I got distracted and forgot. It would've been Disappearing Act. I almost was going to go for Room just for expedience, so both would go, but after re-listening to both, I had to go with Disappearing Act. So it wouldn't have a made a difference in the results.

Also, can't believe Love Comes Tumbling got a vote. It would win the competition as far as I'm concerned.

Disappearing act is one of my absolute faves. Clearly that's a less popular view than I anticipated. Love Comes Tumbling I just really dislike.
I suspect people (Axver) are currently sharpening their pitchforks to sort me out!
