What in your opinion is U2's best album opener? Vote above and please tell us what you voted for and why. Thanks! :D

I voted for Zoo Station, cause I love that song so much! My favorite U2 song altogether is Streets, but I feel it fits better near the middle of a CD, like on The Best of 80-90. I love how rockin' Zoo Station is, and the slide riff to start it off is the perfect album opener! :D

Zoo 'effin' station baby

Zoo Station is one kick ass opening song. But I just realized thanks to your poll, that U2 have had so many awesome album openers.

My other favs:
1. Where the Streets
2. Discotheque
3. Beautiful Day
4. I Will Follow

I don't know why, but I had to pick Gloria. Every time I put October into my CD player and Gloria comes on, I can't help but smile.

In looking at these two polls (openers/closers) and seeing how hard it was for me to make a decision in both cases, I just have to say...Wow! They really know how to start and finish an album!

Zoo Station, defintly.

But my second choice is A Sort of Homecoming! I love that song!

well, A Sort of Homecoming is my favourite song by any band ever
+ a great opener

but there is no song that serves better as an opener than Streets
the intro, the way it's built up <-- fantastic opener

And the rest of the album lives up to it, too!

Zooropa came in a close second though.

Beautiful Day. Awesome tunes, awesome lyrics.

:wave:Hey, Edgie: Have you asked your friend about MDH?

i had to pick zoo station. it's one of those songs that just kicks you right in the ass when you first listen to it. and, it really sets the tone for the whole album. when you put in achtung baby and zoo station comes on, you know you'll be in for the ride of your life! :D

BAD is the opener for Wide Awake (live):shame:
i fixed it.

I voted for Where the Streets Have No Name, but I Will Follow, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Zoo Station and Zooropa are also brilliant choices for opening songs.

U2 have always had great opening songs. I love them all so much - would make a great Cd .......mmmm must get my son to do that!
But even so there is still a standout amongst them!

yes, Im also ready for the laughing gas. Take me Take me!

"Zoo Station" is so great and it made so much sense as an opener for "Achtung Baby" it proved without a doubt that this was not the same quiet, sullen, hobo/prairie U2 of the past. Despite the massive kick in the ass "Zoo Station" provided, I had to go with "Streets." The slow build of beginning feels like walking into a church for me, you hear something in the distance, open the doors and are suddently enveloped by this beautiful, soothing, filling music.

Streets is probably the most spine-tingling, majestic opening to an album that I've ever heard. It feels like walking into a cathedral drenched in sunlight.

Exactly!!! I love Streets, it's such an uplifting song.

I voted for "Streets".

It's just such a great buildup, first with the organ and then that deligtful lead riff, before the drumbeat and guitar getting louder and louder. You just know something big is coming!

Zooroopa......because it?s pretty wierd feeling, it confuses you and makes you wonder whats next
