Can anyone tell me if U2 are releasing an album this Autumn?

I am dying to know!

Sorry if this has already been posted/I posted it in the wrong place.

Thanks.

No, not that we know.
Look at the threads in the Where the album has no name forum. There are some threads about u2 going into the studio next month.

Maybe we'll see the song from Casino Royale, the James Bond movie expected to be released this autumn.

They are allegedly getting in the studio this June, but nothing was said about a 2006 album.

Read in Q magazine with Bono that their gonna do an album in 2006, but if they are going in the studio next month i doubt it will be released until early 2007.

Yeh bono says in Q magazine about the 2006 album
(although you have to take Bono's words with a pinch of salt, right?).
Maybe an album right at the end of the year before christmas? But if they reschedule the tour for december then that seems like a bad time to release an album.

Put it this way: it's unlikely (but not impossible) for them to have an album done in time for Christmas 2006. If it isn't done in time, we won't see it until Christmas 2007 at the earliest. But if they let it sit, they'll go into perfectionist mode and decide to record it again, which would mean no album until Christmas 2008.

Yes, before the tour got postponed.

I was talking about the latest news - that the band is getting in studio in June. At this moment, we don't even know what their plan is. EP or album?

why do you think they postponed it??

...im pretty sure they said album...

New album....this year?

I doubt it...I seriously doubt it...but who knows, miracles can happen.

I really would rather see the Australia and Japan get their shows though...even if it means waiting another two years for an new CD.

Remember the timeline in 1993
March-May: recording "Zooropa"
a few weeks later... first single is out, and then... the album. Is NOT impossible.

6 months making a record is probably way easier than 3.

U2s prob right now is their over-polishing. zooropas problem was the cheap quick feel about it. a little carefree. but what if it had 3 more months behind it?

I think y'all are overestimating

If they follow the pattern from the last 3 albums it will be 3.5 to 4 years between albums (Pop 3/4/97, ATYCLB 10/31/00, HTDAAB 11/23/04). If they release an album before May 2008 I will be very surprised.

What is this about a casino royale single? I think the movie is gonna suck but if U2 is on the soundtrack it may have some redeeming value.

They also had 54 supporting concerts for Zooropa.

10 shows left on this resumed leg.

If they were in the stages of planning more shows, I think rumors would start flying, granted there is time for this to happen, we'll see. Not impossible, just improbable.

Depending on how confident they are in the songs, they could cut an album in a month or two. Zooropa took about 15 weeks.

Using the Zooropa theory.
The single hit the radio and TV as soon as the tour resumed.
The album two months later.

So let's assume for a second they planned on releasing this new single in December '06. Album in late Jan./early Feb. 2007.

A few weeks of rehearsals, all things considered they'd probably have to be done recording the thing by Halloween.

So that's 5 full months. Plenty of time.

Well, heres to how successful Bono was at getting his campaigning out of the way. He owes it to himself to devote the rest of the year to his first passion. It would be to big a shame to let the current chemistry and spark go to waste. Who knows, maybe the break will rekindle the fire he has for Africa and he comes back with a vengence. Maybe the break he's had from music rekindled something that were seeing right now or in the not too distant future. Compelling subject.

A lot will depend on what the rest of the guys want to do as well.
I think as an amateur musician myself, I gotta believe they are all anxious for the next thing, it always seems like the best thing. Edge is constantly writing, he's probably got a bunch of ideas.

I gotta think releasing a small album without heavy promotion would let them off the hook a little bit. Not everything needs to be the biggest thing ever.

It should be a really interesting time, if we aren't hearing shit (rumors, Bono talking ot the press etc.) by August, it's probably time to put it to rest.

That or someone in the media could actually ask him about their plans or one of those PLEBA girls who stalks them.

Who said that they want more shows to promote this album (that we don't even know what kind of product is...)? It would not be the first nor the last time that an artist pulls out an album without a tour to promote it...
Maybe touring gets back with the next album (after this one)...
