R.E.M., RHCP and Pearl Jam do not count, R.E.M. lost a member, Pearl Jam changed drummers four times until Matt Cameron from Soundgarden came along in 1998 and RHCP has a long changing history.

As fro screwtape's comments of PJ never reaching superstar status, the sales of Ten, Vs., and Vitalogy would beg to differ, and the way their tours do everytime would as well.

But back on topic, I have pointed this out a lot to people, that they're unique in not only being around for 30 years with the same lineup (And still being in their 40's) but in that when they play you can tell it's not just for the money (although they certainly don't mind it, but turn plenty of it into positive results) but that they're having so much fun up there and you can really tell that they remain the best of friends, versus biter, aging acts that tour the same "hits" for 20 years hating each other and occasionally replacing people only to continously make money...not naming any names but you can see where I'm going haha.

Then there's the sad cases like The Doors and Queen, who've been around and together forever but without their star making frontmen.

Madonna doesn't really count as it's not hard to keep the same line-up as a soloist, and she's not exactly relevant today, she just keeps kicking around.

Same goes for the Stones, no longer relevant and they certainly have not maintained the same line-up throughout.
