December 24: A reliable source tells @U2 that Bono is telling close friends that "serious recording" of the new album won't begin until February or March of 2002.

all i can say is...if this is true (about it being punk rock, as bono put it...and they don't go changing their minds - like pop was supposed to be a guitar record) then i'll love it.

Just to put Bono's "punk rock" comments into some sort of context: Bono also says that he considers Always to be a "surf-punk tune." In other words when Bono says "punk" he's not talking about the Sex Pistols.
