During the chorus, a voice in the background is saying stuff opposite of Bono... the first time the voice says "Hola!"... anyone know about the second time? I have a hunch it is "Como estas!" but what do I know?

Also, in the intro after Bono's Spanish countdown when the guitar comes in, you can hear Bono speak something. Is he saying "Turn it up, captain"?

Here you go...

"Vertigo"

Unos, dos, tres, quatorze
Turn it up loud, captain

Lights go down
It's dark, the jungle is
Your head can't rule your heart
A feeling so much stronger
Than a thought
Your eyes are wide
And though your soul
It can't be bought
Your mind can wander

Hello, hello
Hola
I'm at a place called Vertigo
Dond' esta
It's everything I wish I didn't know
Except you give me something I can feel
Feel

The night is full of holes
These bullets rip the sky
Of ink with gold
They twinkle
As the boys play rock and roll
They know that they can't dance
At least they know

I can't stand the beats
I'm asking for the check
Girl with crimson nails
Has Jesus 'round her neck
Swinging to the music
Swinging to the music

Hello, hello
Hola
I'm at a place called Vertigo
Dond' esta
It's everything I wish I didn't know
But you give me something I can feel
Feel

Shot dead
Shots fall
Show me, yeah

All of this, all of this can be yours
All of this, all of this can be yours
All of this, all of this can be yours
Just give me what I want
And no one gets hurt

Hello, hello
Hola
We’re at a place called Vertigo
Dond' esta
Lights go down and all I know
Is that you give me something
I can feel your love teaching me how
Your love is teaching me how
How to kneel
Kneel

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

No, it's Bono. Did you see the video? :eyebrow:

 Yes, it's Bono.

And in the chorus I'm pretty sure it's

I'm at a place called vertigo... Donde esta?

meaning 'Where is it?'

I read someone else's post and am surprised no one has brought this to anyone's attention....

Uno, dos, tres, catorce

1,2,3,14

The 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 14th U2 albums were all produced by Steve Lilywhite.

Could "captain" actually mean good old Stevie?

Cheers,

J

What in the world does "Dond' esta" mean?

Any spanish speaking people know? What is with this album and spanish? First we have the spanish dudes on the beach and now it's thoughout Vertigo.

here's a sort of thread on the lyrics. At the end, isn't that Satan/Devil saying that "all of this can be yours?"

I so much want this interpreted, its like Dylan, I can't wait to know what it all means.

when the devil is tempting jesus he said "all of this can be yours" three times, hmmmm..... just like in the song

i'd read starsforu2's interpretation on the lyrics forum, it looks pretty accurate to me

all these people need to get off the 1,2,3,14 means u2's albums thing... this album is NOT u2's 14th album. yea fine, if you leave this one out, count this one but not that one, etc. etc. etc. then yes... you can spin it to sound like it's the 14th. this is their 10th studio only album, 11th if you count rattle and hum... period. it's not the 14th, stop tryin' to twist things around until it IS the 14th. uno dos tres catorce might mean something, but in all likelyhood it means nothing and bono was just kidding around or somethin.

john lennon grew tired of people trying to get alterior meanings to his songs, so he wrote a song about nothing... I Am The Walrus. people still tried to twist it into something, claiming that goo goo g'joob was actually john saying "Go Go Job," a reference to Job of the Bible. long story short, people are nuts.
