When I was young I thought Crowded House's song "Don't Dream It's Over" was a U2 song..

I had cousins tell me they thought Tears for Fears songs were U2 songs, Shout and Every One Wants to Rule the World etc.

I used to think Once In A Lifetime by the Talking Heads was a U2 song. I think I must have first heard it on the radio when Zooropa was out... I wasn't really a fan then but I loved Numb, so I was expecting them to sound weird.

None. I got into them with Mysterious Ways and Even Better Than The Real Thing as far as I can remember.

I can totally see Don't You Forget About Me being mistaken for U2. Nice one. :D

I've never mistaken a song that wasn't U2's for one that was, but I've always thought the guitarist for A Flock of Seagulls played precisely like The Edge--listen to the solo that closes out "I Ran (So Far Away)" (album version; they cut it off on the radio edit) and tell me I'm lyin'...
