80's songs you thought were U2 songs...

When I was young I thought Crowded House's song "Don't Dream It's Over" was a U2 song..

I had cousins tell me they thought Tears for Fears songs were U2 songs, Shout and Every One Wants to Rule the World etc.

the only song i mistook for a u2 song was "the waterfront" by simple minds. the live version that was on the greenpeace cd.

I used to think their Once Upon a Time album was by U2. I blame my brother in law for putting it on a tape with Rattle & Hum.

i remeber when achtung baby came out, one of the local radio stations started playing "mysterious ways" before the album was released. i kept thinking "man that sounds like u2. it would be so cool if they had a song like that."

I used to think Once In A Lifetime by the Talking Heads was a U2 song. I think I must have first heard it on the radio when Zooropa was out... I wasn't really a fan then but I loved Numb, so I was expecting them to sound weird.

I can totally see Don't You Forget About Me being mistaken for U2. Nice one.

Wow they sound a lot like Echo and the Bunnymen.

I wonder if this is the band who is behind that mystery U2'ish song that we've been trying to figure out who it belongs to.

I've never mistaken a song that wasn't U2's for one that was, but I've always thought the guitarist for A Flock of Seagulls played precisely like The Edge--listen to the solo that closes out "I Ran (So Far Away)" (album version; they cut it off on the radio edit) and tell me I'm lyin'...
